There is a bill being introduced that needs horseplayer support. It is described below. If you have not signed the petition/email to your rep, you can in an easy way here. The witholding tax can be abolished, but we need support to do it. Will you take a moment to help?

The bill would eliminate the automatic 25% withholding on pari-mutuel winnings of $5,000 or more.' The effects of this being passed is not only good for a horsplayer, big and small, but good for the business overall. More money in a horseplayer's pocket after a score is not placed in a sock, the bulk of it is rebet, which promotes churn, which promotes handle growth, which grows racing.

The NTRA has been the driving force with this, and we would like to join them and help.

Thanks guys. Just a note with this - this does have a good chance of passing. It is achievable, so this is not one of those "wasted making my voice heard" things (I am as skeptical or moreso than many of you are on these things). If we can achieve critical mass with this through emails it will make a difference, so each email is important.

Thank you for contacting me with your support for H.R. 2140, the Pari-Mutuel Conformity and Equality (PACE) Act of 2009. I appreciate hearing from you on this topic.

As you may know, H.R. 2140 would amend the Internal Revenue Code Act of 1986 to eliminate the automatic 25% withholding on pari-mutuel winnings over $5,000. The legislation would affect segments of the gaming industry such as horse racing and dog racing, which are subject to a federal withholding tax where other segments of the industry are not. H.R. 2140 is currently before the House Committee on Ways and Means.
