Our legislators have come up with a brilliant plan to generate new tax revenue to replace that which has been lost due to the declining economy. It goes like this:

You make $50,000 per year
After taxes, you have $35,000 in cash
Your take home is $2900 per month

The state is proposing that you fill out a form showing all of your expenses and if that total does not fit into their projection of you as a wage earner and what you can afford, you will be called in to explain how you can have monthly expenses exceeding your monthly net. Car, boat, house, utilities, insurance, etc.... and if you don't rrespond you will be held accountable. No tax refund- summons to court etc... wherever you are living, stay there, you'll be glad you did.

Although not quite so invasive, I saw another story on the news that the city of Providence, Rhode Island, is considering imposing a $150 per semester fee on the 25,000 students attending the private colleges in the city (Brown University, the Rhode Island School of Design, Johnson & Wales University, and Providence College) to make up for lost revenue.

this is very, very disturbing. our lives are no longer our own. we are moving closer and closer to an existance in which we live, earn and exist only to support the state which will control everything and make all decisions.

i hope, sincerely, people in this country will recognize what's beginning to happen here and have the courage to stop it, regardless of the consequences, before we end up in the same position as most of the rest of the world.

On each year's state tax return, Oklahoma charges a use tax (over and above the state income tax), based on the amount that it assumes that you spent (calculated according to your income level) during the year on items that you purchased out of state, and on which you didn't pay Oklahoma sales tax. If you want to dispute the amount of the tax, the burden of record-keeping and proof is on you.

Imagine if your state racetracks conducted business that way....nobody would go! Oh yeah, that's already happening.

Tell them Obama is your accountant.

Side bar , NYS just lost a billionaire - Tom Gallusano is moving to Florida to escape the ridiculous tax assault on the wealthy and the inept government, in his words. He will save $13,000 a day in taxes!

Nice going NYS - Moron Capital of the Uinon.

yeah I can personally speak for New Orleans. Reminds me of a town called East St Louis. When I was a kid...a thriving town...now...literally GHOST TOWN. New Orleans is rapidly heading there. The big difference which will always save this city if the port of New Orleans and the mouth of the mississippi. If not for that....would be another east st louis....!!!

When I think of East St. Louis, I think of that scene in the movie "Vacation" where Chevy Chase is asking for directions and in the meantime his hubcaps were getting stolen.

What the elite ruling class libs want for us plebes is for us to merely exist under their oppressive yoke, and not to actually live our lives in freedom.

Didnt we talk about the freedom ranking of the 50 states study not long ago?The states mentioned so far in this thread all ranked close to the bottom. The exception is Oklahoma, which ranked pretty high,I believe. The html version of the study is available if you do not wish to download the pdf version.Fascinating study, have referred to it often.Simply put,the more to the Left a state is,the less freedom there is,often in several criteria.

The process is through elections , so what you see is what you get . Unless of course we act outside of the law and take our country back . I'm not suggesting this is the way to go but , unlike much of the world , we are a spoiled nation unfamiliar with sustained diversity . The election process is slow and often undelivering . The major players are liers and cheats , buying their positions more often than not . This is basically the 60's & 70's revolution warmed over with a lot more steam , and this time around , the major players are in charge . Makes a lot of difference . Ask any true liberal what they're all about , and the answer will be the same as it was 40 years ago . Nothing's changed , except they're as angry ( and dangerous ) as ever .

just to see if i could complete a very long and complicated process a few years ago, i obtained my dual citizenship in italy.

during the process, i had many conversations with a very intelligent and personable young lady in the italian embassy.

i was shocked when i was told that the first available appointment date to go into the embassy was a full 20 months down the road.

when i expressed my disbelief, in a rather sad tone she replied, " 100 years ago many, many italians wanted to come to america. now, it seems, many, many of their children wish to go back."

i can understand their feelings.

That which is done is what will be done,
And there is nothing new under the sun. (this earthly world)
Is there anything of which it may be said,
"See this is new"?

There is no remembrance of former things,
Nor will there be any remembrance of things that are to come,
By those who will come after.......Ecc 1:9-11

Amen. Too many are pre-occupied with bashing repubs or Bush to see what is really going on. This should not be an political issue, it should be an American issue. I fear there are not enough of those left to save this place. The currnt gov has found a base that is not tied to America, only to hand outs and personal gains. Dam the dem for doing it and dam the repubs for puttingin postion to do it.

We will not recognize this country in a short time. This is why I favor disolving the union and re-forming a country with people who are willingto work for it and fight for it.

NY Governor George Patacki, Republican, served three terms from January 1, 1995 to December 31, 2006 and was replaced by Elliot Spitzer, Democrat who decided that his calling was was governing a high-priced prostitute at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington. Governor Patterson replaced the sex charged Spitzer.

Last year in the Republican primaries Ron Paul demonstrated that he had the expertise to explain the interplay between spending, deficits, and inflation, and impress the public that he engages in analysis rather than pandering. Paul should have run as an independent.

In a three way race Ron Paul would have been the voice of moderation, while the major parties would be seen as hijacked by socialist and oppressive fringe factions. Once this truth sinks in, most Americans will find that Paul is not a "fringe candidate" but instead is a candidate who champions their concerns.

History says that third-party presidential candidates can't win. Long ago, a group of revolutionaries contemplated that no colony had ever successfully rebelled from its mother country. They went ahead with their plan anyway, which was successful. They were living in one of those major turning points in history in which the old rules did not apply. And you know, they didn't even have cell phones, IM's or twitter. :)

There must be someone out there that is not owned by the major parties that represents the voices of many who are concerned about the direction we are heading.

Overlay...are you sure about that? I file a Okla Tax Return (although I did not prepare it), and the only thing similar I can recall is something about Internet Purchases...which I claimed as Zero.

Here's a link to the instructions for the state tax return. Read pages 10 and 11, and see how you interpret it.

The Ca legislature is most times mjority Demo, But at times run by Repubs.
In the past 20 years Ca Govs has included at least parts of terms of Repubs Wilson and Arnold, who replaced the recalled Demo Davis.
Like the USA, Ca always has a Demo majority but the majority of the elections the Demos cross party lines to vote in Repubs.

Cincy is just like Columbus and Cleveland. The Conservatives live in the Suburbs and long ago gave up on the City.

Dems run the government in the cities and have for 20+ years.

The Conservatives ignore the city. They would build walls around it if they could. Metaphorically speaking............the walls are already there...........

Cleveland doesn't have as much Conservative influence. Many of the Burbs are still Dem and very liberal in nature. That's why they are screwed up the worst............even some of the Suburbs in Cleveland are starting to look and become more like the city. The large Jewish dominated Neighborhoods in Suburban Cleveland have been suckers for the idiots running Cleveland for a long time. And those suburbs are falling to the same bullshit levels as the city. Beautiful old neighborhoods crumbling. The east side of Cleveland being abandoned .........just like many other places in Ohio and Michigan

Many of these cities, including Cleveland , have lost half their population over the past 30 years , and you can be sure the ones that vacated weren't the reason .
