Governor Schwarzenegger is proposing selling the fair grounds at Del Mar. More here. (http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2009/may/14/1n14budget002311-schwarzenegger-wants-sell-del-mar/?northcounty&zIndex=99155)

See what comes from fiscal irresponsibility? All politicians should be voted out of office and any that get re-elected should be subject to a Ceasar-like chastisment (look up the word decimate).

they need to allow california race tracks to have slot machines to generate revenue and the heck with the monopoly that the tribes enjoy.

That would not only put CA at odds with the native Americans, it would result in a contigent from Las Vegas arriving in Sacramento delivering a message that could not be refused.

the advantage monopoly the Indians have in Ct is obscene. Each clears $60 million per month in slots alone...... The don't report the drop on all the card games, dice games, race book and refreshments. ****The cowboys only won the battle....the Indians are winning the war!

these casinos have sprung up like weeds across the country decimating the horse racing industry

Let the Japanese, Chinese or Saudis buy Del Mar. With the way US business and governments are running things it won't be long and most big businesses will foreign owned anyway.

The next California racetrack will be located in Silicon Valley as surfaces transition from dirt to synthetic to virtual. ;)

From the article:... This is not the first time the idea has surfaced to sell surplus state properties, including Del Mar. In 2004, Schwarzenegger's California Performance Review board listed the Del Mar Fairgrounds' market potential at $1.4 billion, calling the property “perhaps the state's most valuable commercially used property.” ...I wonder if Admirable Halsey could afford a major interest? ;)

With the way the game is,who is going to want to buy it?

Churchill Downs - I believe not

Frank Stronach - I believe not

?

?

?

Arnold better go back to the movies, because who ever buys it will probably want to develop all the land including the TRACK,and we will lose a great track, and in this recession they will not get anywhere near its value.

Wait until the Magna auctions have taken place and see how little money they bring in against book value.

Why Halsey Minor of course - everyone's default buyer for everything racing-related.

the INDIANS are going to buy the racetracks in california, put in slots, and run a profitable entity.

without the same "entitled" position they enjoy, no one other than the indians could pull it off.

That's going to be pretty tough to do. It's in a river valley and probably would need the approval of the California Coastal Commission.

The indians don't need the racetracks, they have slots anyway, why do they need a racetrack?

What i think that California should do is to GIVE del mar to the Indians for free. That way, they'll put slots into Del Mar and then that would save the racing industry in california.

since no group other than the indians can put slots in there, what that facility will bring in this real estate market will, indeed, be a gift to the indians.
