According to races and money won, this is a quality Preakness field.

1. Big Drama high Beyer 108 record 7-5-1-1 $850,258

2. Mine That Bird high Beyer 105 record 9-5-1-0 $1,791,581

3. Musket Man high Beyer 98 record 7-5-0-2 $772,600

4. Luv Gov high Beyer 87 record 10-1-3-1 $62,896

5. Friesan Fire high Beyer 104 record 8-4-1-1 $603,265

6. Terrain high Beyer 91 record 8-3-1-1 $512,034

7. Papa Clem high Beyer 101 record 7-2-2-0 $850,943

8. General Quarters high Beyer 102 record 12-3-3-1 $641,735

9. Pioneerof the Nile high Beyer 96 record 9-5-1-1 $1,634,200

10. Flying Private high Beyer 94 record 11-1-4-0 $193,080

11. Take the Points high Beyer 99 record $156,190

12.Tone It Down high Beyer 87 record 6-2-2-1 $54,720

13. Rachel Alexandra high Beyer 108 record 10-7-2-0 $568,354

Even with all the top 3 yo's on the sidelines, this group towers over last years Preakness entrants.

I look for Terrain to run a big race in the Preakness. Atleast I hope so. I intend to bet $200 across the board. Good Luck to all.

why terrain?

I like his form cycle of 3rd after a lay off. I also like Jeremy Rose at Pimlico. Probably just another bad hunch bet on my part.

#6 Terrain has had 3 starts on fast dirt with 2 wins. The one start he ran poorly on fast dirt he tried blinkers and attended a suicide pace.

You could make an argument that between the trouble lines, the sloppy track, the blinkers and fast pace in the Delta Jackpot, and the 4 poly races for his last six starts that he may run his best race yet on Saturday. Add 30 or 40-1 and Terrain doesn't look so bad! If the track is fast on Saturday he could wake up.

I will use this gelding somewhere on my tickets and maybe on top in a few, if the track is fast.

generally don't play Pimlico other than on this day each year....my impression is that historically it has a tendency for an inside speed bias. Is that a correct assumption? Can you win from the outside {(9-13 gate} with a strong field at the Preakness distance?

With a clean break Rachel has 2 or 3 horses inside her that she will sit off of. If she breaks a half step slow (not unheard of from the outside), that number could go to 5. Kent Desormeaux on Tone it Down could do the most damage if he wants to. After watching him ride for years I know he will usually make some type of impact in a big race even if he's not on a contender. The only impact he can make in this race is to send and bother Rachel. At the start my eyes will be on the 12 and 13 post positions even though I will throw both out of all my wagers!

terrian has never won a dirt race outside of mountineer park

terraian has never won going 2 turns

While his 2 wins have come on dirt, numbers wise, his best races have in fact been on the fake.

Some valid points but at 30 or 40-1 he's a must use for me on fast dirt.

By the way he has one win at Churchill. The 90 beyer at Mnr is huge for a 2yo in August and in every race since you can make an excuse if you try. If he were 10-1 or less he's a throwout.

Not to mention the fact that it seems pretty useless to handicap this race for a fast track anyway.
