Im amazed when I see people on here post, "I hope rachel and MTB run so i can get better odds!"

Isnt' there any racing fans that just wanna watch the race as fans and hope they see something special from RA or even MTB? I for one love Papa Clem in this race but I'm going to the race and I wanna watch it and hope for something great to happen from Rachel. I could not imagine watching this race and hoping for anything other than MTB to make a great performance, or RA to show off her stuff. Id rather see one of those happen, than to make a few bucks. I'd be curious to see if any others out there just wanna watch the race for the love of the game.

I might throw $50 wp on Papa Clem but that will be in the back of my mind.Id rather see Rachel or MTB win.

Will probably EXB the horses I'm cheering for, but agree with your general sentiment.

to some it's a sport, to others, it's just gambling.

I'm excited as hell about this race as I think it's going to be a good one.

Won't know if I bet it til about 5 minutes to post.

I loved the Derby too but no value in the race to bet on.I made an exacta play that was less than one third of what I planned on betting.

I'm a big fan of the sport.I don't know why there is so much disconnect.I love it and here in Cincinnati we have 10 months of live racing so I definitely get my fill!

The Preakness becomes a great betting race when the winner of the Derby is not the best horse there. Throw in the filly this year who is going to be way overplayed and big payoffs are possible. Based on where he was on the track and what happened down the lane and how he has trained, I'm thinking Musket Man for the win, but not sure yet how to build the tickets....but I have time.

I think I meet one of those once.

They are rare and show up once, maybe twice a year. Preakness Day (outside of Baltimore) generally isn't one of those days.

I was disappointed to see that ESPN won't be carrying the Preakness undercard. ESPN360.com will have HRTV's feed tho.

I normally place all my bets in the late morning at the OTB, and enjoy watching the undercard during lawn work breaks  . Looks like I'll have to register for 360 if I wanna do that...

There are two games within this one game. Horse racing and gambling on horse racing.

The game of horse racing itself has a minute following in comparison to those that following the game of gambling on horse racing. Unfortunately for us (the fans of gambling on horse racing) both the industry leadership and horseman associations have failed to realize and/or accept that fact for decades. Which has translated into putrid growth and virtually non existent profits for them.

Their answer? Try to coattail ride another industry that has taken care of it's customer base for many years. Instead of actually going out beginning what will now be a long process of taking care of its own customer base. Unfortunately decades of failing to do so will mean it will take decades to undo the damage. We don't have that kind of leadership, cooperation and commitment within the sport.

What we they do when they realize the casino coattail riding is only a short term temporary fix? Find another coattail I assume.

This may seem like off the topic rambling. But my point is their just are not enough of hose horse racing fans to grow the sport the way they want it to grow. Not current fans, ex-fans or potential future fans. Not enough any way you turn it.

Now gamblers, that’s a virtually limitless base. Mostly untapped.

Try Pimlico's website, HTRV's website, Twinspires, Expressbet, etc.

:jump: I watch the races as a fan...my handicapping days are long gone...I'll handicap a little for fun, but have no fear, zippy chippy....there are some of us that follow all this for the simple reason being the love of the game and the horses....I am true of heart when it comes to this sport.
