Overlays and true Odds

How many determine their own "true odds" and how many rely on others to provide them???

I figure my own (and show others how to figure their own). That makes more sense to me than placing faith in an outside source without knowing how it generates its odds, while also having to pay over and over for the information.

do my own......depending on the size of the field they get 20-25%(3/1 to 4/1)
then i rate my contenders usually i have three or four for the remaining 75-80%....if the odds are above on one of my contenders i make the play...sometimes playing two horses if they are above 5/1
