The first 10 pages in the 14-page article are devoted to a history of fillies who have run in Triple Crown races…in his words, an “estimable group of equine marvels that raced our flawed but mesmerizing sport with grace beyond compare”. Not only is it a fascinating read of racing history, but as a bonus you get a lengthy quote from Shakespeare’s Macbeth and Joe Hirsh’s description of Genuine Risk’s performance in the 1980 Preakness.
