That mysterious late morning derby scratch of the favorite , sure hurt, didn't it? And whatever happend to last's years derby fav Big Brown..... ran out of 'juice'??

Funny how our best & brightest national public handicappers regularly can't seem to pick these LS hoses and on the biggest races too!

Gettin a bit too much like the boxing game, wouldn't you say?

Anyway speaking of longshots , here is a fun entry called 'Beetlebaum' a cacaphonic riot by legendary Spike Jones and his City Slickers.

Also he has another hillariouis one for auto racing buffs 'Dance of the Hours'

Doodles Weaver missed his calling. Should have been a track announcer.

With 2,800+ sires in the entire Tbred breeding, with the Bloodhorse top 100 sires producing 15% of the 2008 foal crop, with a high % of runners' pedigree including Mr. Peospectro, Danzi9g, Raise a Native, and Bold Ruler, I am really not surprised that lesser horses can compete if the fav $1 million horse goes out. Take a look at the Bloodhorse sire list and you will see many sires with famous grandsires for a fee of under $10,000.00! Add to the above an off track,Poly, and it makes sense to throw down with multiple longshots if the race calls for it. Works for me!

So you want derby racing intrigue? & scandal The father of Mark Allen, co-owner of Mine That Bird,is involved in the Ted Stevens scandal up in Alaska. Check this out from the Throughbred Times:

"The father of Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) winner Mine That Bird’s co-owner Mark Allen is one of the principals at the center of a wide corruption scandal involving the Alaska Legislature and former United States Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska).

Bill Allen, former chief executive officer of oil services company VECO Corp., pleaded guilty to multiple charges of bribery and conspiracy involving four Alaska state legislators on May 7, 2007. As part of the plea, his son Mark Allen received immunity from prosecution.
