I went to Three Chimneys on Friday to see Big Brown up close. He is an amazing animal and I will try to post some of the photos I took later on today.
I saw Smarty Jones as well and he is looking great too.

I want to get down there again...it's been at least 10 years since I've been down to the big farms in Kentucky...went to visit Holy Bull at Jonabell after he was there for a few years...as a fan of racing, it's really an amazing thing to go and see all these retired legends living their lives out in these magnificent paddocks.

I look forward to the photos!

I am planning one of these kind of trips in the near future and would love to see BB. Too bad such a GREAT racehorse had to be surrounded by controversy and the label that gets thrown around of such a weak 3 year old group last year. Regardless of that he was absolutely an amazing competitor.

First time trying this. I got our pic taken with BB as well but don't think anyone here would want to see that.

Was his last race so bad that he had to be sent to the big house ?!

wow

I have to get down there some day. It's something I've never done but always wanted to. Do people get emotional? I can't imagine seeing Smarty and not getting a little choked up.

awesome, awesome pics, thanks for sharing!

Thanks MNslappy. Some folks did get choked up at the Seattle Slew gravesite at Hill N' Dale.

This may sound weird coming from a 34 year old guy... But i think if i went there i would be overcome w/ emotion seeing all those great horses.. Smarty Jones, BB, Candy Ride.. That really is incredible to see them like that. I want to go.

ha i just read your post here.. There is absolutely NO WAY in hell i could see or be near Smarty Jones and not get choked up... Just no way.. I still have trouble watching his Derby/Preakness... Something about this damn sport gets me EVERY TIME>>>

Id rather meet Smarty than anything human athlete on the planet.

I went to Jonabell in 1998 to see a filming of Affirmed for a private film maker. He just ran and played for about an hour with the cameras rolling. He was gone a couple of years after that. That same day I saw Holy Bull lying down in his stall. I asked what was wrong with Bull. The manager said nothing, he just doesn't see any need to stand when he can lie down.

Next time you're in Lexington make a stop at the Kentucky Horse Park. Cigar, Da Hoss and John Henry are in the Barn of Champions. John Henry regularly tears his feed bucket clean off the wall. Cigar is still majestic.

They also have a little building called "Take a Ride" with full size horse robots that if you ride will mimic the action of different disciplines of horses. You see the horse it is mimicing up on a screen in front of you. A real hoot. Similiar to the machine in Saratoga's racing museum. Theirs does the Oaklahoma Track workout and a virtual race. Great toys for big people.

Just checked the Kentucky Horse Park website-John Henry died in October 2007, the last year I went. Funny Cide has his stall now.

Smarty Jones looks like a young rocker in that picture; give him a guitar.
