2009-05-02 12:37:27 Bet* Churchill 9 Pick-3 $1.00 3+5+9/6+10/8 $6.00 $1452.50
Multiple Choice- - Select the correct scenario below:
A. After two days of round the clock handicapping, identifying the underlying superiority of a two-year old champion GELDING from Canada that was last in the Breeders' Cup, had lost two races at Sunland this year and had not looked that good during Derby Week warm ups, I decided to key that 50-1 shot in the only Pick 3 I played leading up to the Derby. :8:
B. Calvin Borel was on a roll this weekend and I singled him in the Derby. :8:
C. I selected the horses 1 through 20 and then turned my selections upside down and singled the horse I had in the 20 spot. :8:
D. As I clicked on the squares for my pick three selections on the Twin Spires interface on my Blackberry as I sat comfortably in my folding chair just back of the observation stand at the 3/4 pole on the backside, I somehow clicked the square for number 8 when I INTENDED to click the square for my Derby Top Pick - Number SEVEN - Papa Clem. :8:
E. Since there was so much pink around the Hal Wiggins barn on Friday (and Saturday) for Rachel Alexandra's Oaks walk over (my son is assistant trainer for Hal), I decided to single the pink saddle towel in the Derby. :8:
Answer when I get back from our third "celebration dinner". :jump: :faint: :D

Congratulations Reid! I'm happy for you no matter how you got it. Judging by what you've written in option A, I'll guess D as something I'd probably do to, except on a paper ticket and never check the thing, instead of a computer wagering service that automatically checks for and pays all winning tickets. Maybe B, heck it's only $9 per $1 combo.

ummm lets see...you mentioned youve been in this game awhile and your son is an assistant trainer for hal..so I will eliminate option A. You in your description made note of his losses which would of led me to believe you would of in no way SINGLED him therefore option A out the window.
Option B...I could see this happening as "Bo Rail" is an awesome Jock at CD but...I will leave this one open for now...
Option C...I doubt seriously you listed the horses in order from best to least (coming up with MTB as 20th) and then decided to flip them singling the 20th best horse....This would go against logic considering your choices in the first two legs.
Option D....Now this one is very plausible. As a matter of fact, a friend of mine (being a little intoxicated at the time mistakenly hit the wrong button in an exacta). Low and behold, long shot comes in and pays 7 hundred plus a few months back. Guess sometimes its better to be lucky then good....but theres one more option...lets see...
Option E.....Pink saddle towel......NO way lol. If this is it then I am so lost lol..
so i am down to two choices in my selections of how you hit it....
from your post, I draw that you are astute and well spoken so I will chose the "D" option......and congrats:jump:

Actually, anyone using 8 based on options B, C or E would get one poiint, the correct answer "D" is worth 5 points and anyone picking "A" gets MINUS 5. I remember checking my wagers after 3 won the 9th. The pick 3 was intended as a 'saver" to my pick 4 in which I had not used Einstein in the 10th. In my pick 4 I used 6,7,15,16 in the Derby. I made the wager deciding to single my top pick (which WAS #7) for a $6.00 play -- and I still don't know how I clicked on the 8.
How many times have we looked to the "racing gods" and said, "can't I win just ONE photo, PLEASE?" :D -- Well, I'll remember this one the next time I feel like "I never get a break"! :D
BTW -- I enjoyed the "new" Twin Spires mobile wagering interface (new since Breeders' Cup anyway), was able to get my wagers in as horses were being handed off to their assistant starter and account was credited as soon as the race was made official.

When I was at Sam Houston Race Park we had a "gimmick" contest in which fans could select the Derby First through Last and the person with the most correct won $300 or something like that and if anyone got all 20 correct they would win One Million. (The track didn't even insure that contest :D ). Those of us that made public selections for SHRP gave our list and I'm not kidding when I say that MTB would have been number 20. One of my clients called me as I was watching the horses through my BIG 15 X 75 Binocs to ask me what looked good. I told him that 6 looked very good standing in the middle of the circle of horses and that, "I hate to say this, but 8 looks really good -- but he looked so bad earlier this week." Then as they were making their way to the paddock and I was watching them from a long way offf -- I said to him again, "I'm telling you Mike, the 8 looks good but there is NO way!" He called me back after the race to ask me if I bet him. I told him about the "accident" win but that I didn't bet (and was never tempted, even with the way he looked walking up) the 8.
I know one thing about my future Derby week workout observations - the next time I say "that horse looks like Monachos" - I'm going to bet to WIN. I threw Monarchos out of my top 3 too (at least not as far as this one) I didn't like the way either one looked galloping after their workout. :bang:
