These are the computers Total class ratings for the top 4 horses going in to the Derby.

#1 Friesan Fire at 97
#2 Pioneer of the Nile at 96
#3 Mine The Bird at 95
#4 Musket Man at 89

All other horses are rated from 84 down to 48

What might have been if I had ignored Morning lines, speed figures, media talking heads.

With all due respect, how does something that supposedly rates class put MTB anywhere near the top????

You should use your computer to play chess.

Who's computer? What program?

With all due respect, you need to give a little more information that just a list of names and ratings. Otherwise, you're just posting opinions.

We've only seen 4 ratings; ironically the top 4 finishers. BTW, how in any way could Mine that Bird be rated higher going into the race than Musket Man? And Musket Man was a 20-1 shot.

No doubt this is a case where #20 is the horse predicted to win and #1 carries the poorest score. I expect that Papa Clem was that "bottom ranked horse"...and I cashed the exacta!!!

Drivel.

I will take this time to redboard, which I never do, but screw you all, I am doing it now.

I had Mine that Bird a bunch of times on Saturday. Every time I hit the all button.

Take that!

I dug up an old program that does some evaluations along the lines of class.

These are for yesterdays field in the KY Derby. # is the program number and they are listed in order of finish. CR is class rating, CR1 and CR2 for different approaches with the numbers listing the rank order, AVG is the simple average of the two rankings of CR1 and CR2 with the final column, RO, the rank ordering of the average.

# CR1 CR2 AVG RO
-- --- --- --- --
8 14 18 16 17
16 2 5 3.5 1
2 9 4 6.5 3
7 11 6 8.5 7
11 3 14 8.5 7
17 19 6 12.5 16
9 9 15 12 14
10 13 3 8 6
1 7 10 8.5 7
12 1 11 6 2
15 18 1 8.5 7
5 15 9 12 14
4 12 8 10 11
19 4 11 7.5 4
3 15 17 16 17
14 17 19 18 19
18 4 11 7.5 4
6 8 13 10.5 13
20 4 16 10 11

Occasionally in the past, these home brewed ratings have been helpful but they were never predictive enough. And, as you can see, the 2009 KY Derby winner didn't fare too well in my program.

Like as said, more columns of numbers.
