This one got me right between the eyes this morning. There goes the future bets. The same thing happened to me with A. P. Indy.

By the way sorry for the duplicate post. Couldn't delete the whole thing so I sort of changed the title.

You had IWR in the future bets? Ugh. Sorry. Just so I can be a little sick for you, what odds did you have?

Thanks, but this happened to me before with A.P. Indy! Things were going too good.

Horse Racing... There's nothing like it when you win and nothing like it when you lose!

$200 to win at 10-1 and a $20 exacta box with Dunkirk.

The reality is the horse wouldn't have been scratched if he had a chance to win today.
So in effect, the future bet was no good. The idea of future bets obviously take in soundness into account, and soundness issues can happen at any time when a horse is in training.
So, even if they decided to run the horse today, he obviously wouldn't have won. He isn't 100%

Even if it isn't a soundness issue but a drug issue. It means his form was enhanced by what Mullins was able to get away with earlier, but wasn't today. (This is pure speculation as a reason for the scratch has not been announced).

But I do understand the frustration of having a futures bet on the number one horse on form.

Well that sucks. You probably aren't in the mood for it, but let me ask you something. If he had gone off at even money (just assume that for a second--obviously assume odds on other contenders would be higher, too), would you have bet a couple other horses to hedge?

I have to go with Dunkirk now since I had an exacta box with him. I usually don't hedge.

Back up plan:

I'm sure a lot of you have been playing the Horses a long time and one thing I know from experience is that when something like this happens you shouldn't play anything for about a week!

But will I?

No way! I never learn!

The other thing I've got to say is that everyone knows I've been defending Mullins on the Forum but this is definately a "karma" thing. It just caught up to him today. And it got me in the process. I forgot to duck!

You know this is true - don't play heavy today.

I'll test the waters in the first race. I'll bet the 8 to win and exacta box with the 1.
