Minnesota orders ISPs to blacklist gambling sites

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-10231683-38.html?tag=mncol

Fair use clip:
The state of Minnesota has handed Internet providers a 7-page blacklist (http://www.imega.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/ab001dd4.pdf) of gambling Web sites that they're supposed to prevent customers from accessing, a move that raises First Amendment and technical concerns.

"We are putting site operators and Minnesota online gamblers on notice and in advance," said John Willems, a Minnesota Department of Public Safety official, in a statement. Companies that received the list of off-limits Web sites -- which was made public on Thursday -- include AT&T, Comcast, Qwest, and Sprint/Nextel.

My bad.

I forgot about the carve out horse racing has for online wagering and I didn't have time to look at the sites. When I finally looked, I did see some poker sites.

And I apologize for the Republican crack. Totally out of place on the horse forum and there are plenty of Democrats who are anti-gambling as well. A low blow.

Interesting that I didn't see one of the largest poker sites (PokerStars) on the list. Oversight or backroom deal?

They will have a nightmare trying to keep the list accurate and up to date. What a joke...

Most of those sites are likely scam operations that nobody plays at anyways.

Did you notice that they are using an old Fed law that states that "common carriers" are prohibited from transmitting gambling. The article states that ISP's are not considered to be common carriers so it a waste of time.

Not sure why anyone would ever play online poker for serious money since you have no idea of the skill level or who you are playing. Plus the games are easy to fix.
