While I don't agree with Obama and his policies, he was exceptionally astute in recognizing vulnerabilities in the old regime and in using modern technology.
I, like your Dad, would have bet against him. But he "sold" himself to the electorate. Give him credit for that. He blew race issues away and showed that blacks can get rise to the top. In the meanwhile, I'm reminded of the following:

A black boy covered himself in white flour. He went to his Mom and said,
"Hey Mom, I'm white."
She smacked him across the face and said:
"Go tell your father what you said."
"Hey Dad, I'm white." He got smacked again.
