Quite an article.

It makes one realize how much like WWF the racing industry COULD be without those on the inside doing anything about it.

This article is AMAZING.

I've heard stuff for a while now about Dr. Harthill...

and HOLY FREAKIN COW!!!! THEY DIDN'T DO A URINE TEST ON HOLY BULL AFTER THE DERBY???? PARDON MY FRENCH, BUT WTF?????

This is completely shocking to me, and if he was drugged.....WOW.

Nice quote:

Asked about Croll's comments, Bernie Hettel, chief state steward and executive chairman of the State Racing Commission, said that not testing Holy Bull "probably wasn't the smartest thing to do," but added, "That whole Derby is a non-issue now."

Well, PA, at least this guy shot down one of your pet conspiracy theories, about the battery passing between Stevens and Day

PA,

(Let me start off by saying I haven't read the link yet) .. I've heard stories that Croll thought Holy Bull was drugged .. but I'm wondering .. did Croll himself have the horse tested?? And if not (which I'm figuring he didn't) .. why not?? .. just to either back up his arguement .. or to give himself some peace of mind.

Andy,

I didn't read parts 2 and 3 of the article yet....what are you talking about?? Where does he shoot down that theory???

I forget....did you ever watch the tape in super slo-mo?? If you haven't, please do....and I never claimed it was a battery....

You are right there is 3 parts, I guess I just got so disgusted with the first 2 parts I never got to the 3rd part, which I just read, more revolting than the first 2.

And here I sit working tomorrow's races, Why ? I am strongly of the belief that the business of racing horses is more corrupt today than it was 25 years ago when I started.

You guys have to admit the writer of that piece has some serious testicular mass. He lives and writes in Louisville. There are going to be some powerful people pissed at him. I liked this part though.

"If Harthill ever decided to talk, the reputations of a lot of wealthy and influential people would be stained. The integrity of horse racing in general, and the Derby in particular, would be tarnished at a time when the sport already is struggling to maintain its share of the entertainment dollar against the burgeoning popularity of lotteries and casinos."

Almost like he is putting the word out that the old Doc is dangerous to have around. Sometimes you have to read between the lines. I wonder if this is one of those cases.

Ok Andy, I've finished the entire 3 part article.....he does NOTHING to shoot down the "object passing" incident between Stevens and Day, other then to say that HE thinks it's ridiculous. Coming from this author, I find it shocking that he would outright dismiss something that has some VISUAL CONFIRMATION, while at the same time asking us to believe all the stuff he says about Harthill (much of it he doesn't have concrete proof of....at least I have a videotape).

Other then that, I thoroughly enjoyed this article. If even half the stuff about Harthill and the Derby are true, it's got to be one of the biggest scandals in sports history (and when you take into account the $$$ involved, it's mind boggling).

This article should be MANDATORY reading for EVERYONE involved in this sport.....

In light of the fix-six deal, why would anyone be surprised?
Wherever there is money, there are crooks. And this great game is such easy pickings.

They let this POS cretin run wild and ban Gill?
This guy needs to have an "accident" for the good of racing.
Pick up truck back over him, rifle cleaning mishap, something good.

I read the article and am not shocked at all. In fact the writer
stole my line. I guarantee every jockey would fail a polygraph
if tested. Simple question.....did you make every attempt to try and WIN. Basically, lets discount the jocks that are 1 for 150
as there mounts prorbaly have no shot at winning, but an
active jock, that hangs with his fellow brothers in the jockeys
qtr's for hrs upon hours.Playing pool, cards, sauna's etc.
I am not saying racing is entirely fixed, and all races are
pre-determined, but some are.If you gents have viewed and studied enough races, you will see it also.Jocks simply dont try at times, Yesterday for example 2 horses were wide to NOWHERE
and up the track by multiple lenghts last outing, 1 was an entry last outing at 2 to 1, he ran lights out yesterday and just missed at 22 to 1
for the WIN spot. The other was almost the same scenario,
but was eased last start and returned with new jock and no
published works to boot and WON.......I still enjoy gambling
on horses and like the challenge of doping out trainer/jock intentions in given races. With medications now and the different drugs, trainer intentions, jockey journeys etc, How can anyone
completely SANE not think that HANKY PANKY is not played daily
at all tracks.. So we continue to play, sometimes we enjoy, but let's not let them Insult our Intelligence. As the article stated,
This goes back many years, and THE race's we're talking about is the kentucky derby, not the 5 k claimer they're running tomorrow in churchill downs 2nd race on opening day ! BTW I have the 2nd figured for tomorrow, just not sure how many jocks will go for the lead and who will take back some. Betcha they have a good idea !

10. Everyone still has a chance in the inter-board challenge.
