just curious as to which wager is popular with all the serious players, considering all the once a year monies in these pools? If i have a good solid opinion i make a serious win bet if odds are suitable. If not i will spread out in a few exactas and a couple of tiered trifecta wagers...a/bcd/bcde/bcdef... maybe sliing my a into the second and third slots also

Definitely the Trifecta, even though I will also use other wagers on the race (primarily exacta and super). If I hit the Derby Tri, its usually a good day.

...as I enjoy watching the ball flying out of the yard.

I doubt if I will ever hit a bigger exacta than I did in `05, but I do think I can improve on my superfecta of 15k in `07. That superfecta pool is a deep one, and if you can manage a single in the mix, a spread in the show hole can yield some serious ducats on a cost effective play.

what no double. pick 3, pick 4 or pick 6 in the poll? The exotic players combines two or more opinions....it can be vertically or horizontally on any big day.

Exacta in the race (very narrow and hit it hard) and P4 into the race. Plus the undercard races have some very beefy pools as well, which is the best place to make money that day.

Under cards for Derby and Preakness have been very very good to me.
I like trainers who bring along under card horses with their "Big" horse.

My theory is they bring the Big horse for the owner and the other ones to pay for the trip.

And the pools have more than their share of "dumb" money spilling over from waiting for the big races.

their is no doubt about that.... i was just curious about the derby itself.... i play the full card on fri. and sat. i like to play the vertical wagers only though i feel their is more foolish money in these pools.

I have been fortunate to hit the last two Pick 3's ending in the Derby, so I enjoy that play.

I hammer the exacta with my top 3 picks and possibly a longshot. The payoff is usually more than generous. I bet more on the exacta rather than spread it out with tris and supers.

None of the above.Gave up playing the derby a couple of years ago and now just keep my hands in my pocket and enjoy the spectacle. The last time i cashed a ticket in the derby was Go For Gin,and that was a long time ago,15 years.

Is there 10 cent superfecta's offered in the Derby this year?

IMO there are 2 strong plays if u like a horse u can wheel him for first second or third in tris it would have cost 1000 (334 x 3) I think or like I did 400 show on the six no good sir but anytime u can get 5.40 on a horse like FF I'm interested very easily could have been 400 show potn would have been a 1280 cash (6.40) show what's wrong with that

My fave bet is to key a logical horse and a value horse, drill the field and hope to hell my key horses don't win. It could've looked something like this for the 135th Derby:

All - All - 7,16 - 7,16

All - 7,16 - All - 7,16

All - 7,16 - 7,16 - All

Sure looks easy after the fact. What's six grand these days?
