My idea for a new type of bet (basically for new bettors). Maybe called "Lucky Longshot", and a progressive jackpot would be paid when the longest toteboard odds runner fron the regular win pool wins the feature race. The jackpot money would come from a SEPARATE POOL OF BETS on any horse in the race, just for that type bet, with WPS % takeout and the rest paid when the longest shot wins a feature race, no breakage involved.

My idea would work the same way; You would guess which horses you think might end up as the longest shot when the final odds are posted and bet them all, and from the pool ($1 bets for example) of any horses bet in this; Takeout is subtracted from this and money bet on previous days where the longshot did not win, and payoff divided among those who bet the winning longest shot.
The effect of this type bet would be to:
****Encourage Current bettors to bet races with small fields (during large carryovers);
Interest GP (general public) in the big race each day at each track;
Get Slots players to bet horses (using casino/slot terminology like (Lucky, progressive, and jackpot);
Get Lottery players to play due to the huge payoffs;
Encourage Non-Current bettors to use quickly learned knowledge of betting (figuring out who cold end up as longshot horse);
****Give advantage to Current bettors who know more about the toteboard, field size, how predictable race will be;
Encourage the general Media to publicize racing on a daily basis without having to explain what the betting system is and how to handicap pick6, with 6 races to figure out;
