this horse is getting better and better and better. He had a legit excuse in Louisiana in the slop and is probably one of the gamest horses in the field. Has a ton of heart if you watch his races. In the Beverly Lewis I think if He actually would have saw POTN coming up I don't think he gets by him. He worked hard to put away IWR and he did so, but POTN was out of his vision range and passed him at the wire.

very underrated horse and very game.

I don't think he finishes in the top 5 but I have been wrong before. If his last race were 1 1/4 Summer Bird beats him by more than 2 lengths.

I dont' think he hits the exacta but like his trainer says, It hink they have a very good shot of hitting the board.

So you think he is going to run exactly 3rd?

Third or fourth, I believe that means. :) .

P.S. Maybe even fifth, in this day of the High-as-a-kite Five.

yes third or forth. I think he is the most underrated horse in the field and like I said, I don't think POTN gets past him if he had actually SAW him. I think there are a few horses that are just flat out better than him, but I think has enough run to pick up a check and get on the board.

All seriousness aside, I would love to see Summer Bird getting into the field. The only thing wrong with his AD run was wideness and Toetoe's jinxifyin' favor. Who knows ? Maybe with a better trip, given his tern of foot, he woulda flew by 'em all. . Get it ? Bird ... tern ... flew ? ;) .

I thought he got in when Giant Oak dropped out.

I'm seeing him at 20th spot right now.

The other plus for Papa Clem - as far as I'm concerned, at least - is that Bejarano signed up to ride him. Bejarano has a way of squeezing a little bit extra out of a horse in the big races, especially at the close, as the Arkansas Derby illustrates. That was a classic Bejarano finish.

Who was Bejarano's other choice? Papa Clem was the only horse he has ridden in the preps that is making the Derby.

Yes, he was on Square Eddie.

I didn't find the Arkansas Derby to be that impressive.

Obviously, anything can happen with maturing 3 year olds, but Papa Clem I don't think is anywhere near the top 4 horses, which means he'll be 4th or 5th in the Derby, at best.

as far as dery prep's i'd put the arkansas derby behind the florida derby and MABYE the santa anita derby. it wasn't that great but it was better than most of the derby prep's out there.

I love Bejarano. I love getting great prices with him. I'm not convinced, at this point, and when I run my final analysis I'll consider him.

I'd like to see how he works too, so my correspondents will have their eyes out. I do like the name and Bejarano, but I don't bet on those as much --- every jockey and trainer is out to get this one.

For this year, my favorite is Quality Road, but he's definitely going to be chalk.
We'll just have to wait and see until post-time, but I think Papa Clem might offer some good value for the exotics.

the good thing about the derby is that in the derby, I am more than willing to take chalk. I'll take 4 to 1 on quality road all day long.
