Okay so I was done posting for the day until I came home and saw that my check was here. Ive always wished for the day where I could take a large sum of money to the track and take "one shot" at a huge score. I never thought the day would come, but luckily I won some money.

Im not in any rush to do this. I'm going to be smart with my money, but I am taking 5-10% percent of it and going to the track. Im doing this one time only. Now I have to figure out the day, and what kind of bets i want to make. There will be a 3-5 day hold on my check so this weekend is out.

I was thinking of doing it Derby day, but I dont want to be an overcrowded track with thousands of dollars. I could possibly do it next week, or after the Derby.

I'm thinking what the best thing for me to do to try to get a huge score. Big win tickets? Superfecta wheels? Trifecta wheels? Money to place on longshots? Doubles? Exactas? I guess this isn't a bad problem to have.

Any advice, if someone handed you say 10k and told you to try to win, what you would do?

Best tracks for longshots? Best Superfecta Payouts. Best pools, etc..

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

About the only thing I know that I will be doing, is that I will going by myself. I'm not bringing any friends along to distract me.

I'd take a stab at a multi day Pick 6 carryover.

First Pay off all credit cards. Then pay any recurring bills for the next 3 months. Then get the car serviced and get new tires if you need them. Then
take one half of whats left and put it in the bank.

Then take a shot with what's left!

It took me many years to learn this stuff!

You mean put everthing on I Want Revenge. You can also get some real good odds that he will win by 3 or more lengths!

Ky Derby day

I would bet a pick 3 or pick 4 with the Derby as the last race. All horses in the first 2 or 3 legs. Then in the Derby I would average the last 2 or 3 speed figures for each horse. I would then use the 4 horses with the highest numbers in the Derby with some preference toward outside post positions.

If I was looking at an excellent payoff if any of the 4 horses won Derby I might bet some on a few of the other horses to reduce possible losses.

Or I would just bet it evenly in the Derby on the top 4 horses with the best avg speed figures in the last 2 or 3 races.

Since March 14th of this year in graded or high value non graded stakes 45 of 56 winners have been in the top 4. 18 have paid over 10.00 and 5 have paid over 30.00

I agree with the more conservative posters about paying off debt, etc...next, make sure you dont owe any taxes on your score you had....take the rest and split it two.....half on high stakes craps at your nearest casino and if you play right, you have a good shot....take the other half and put it all to win on your pick in the Derby...mine is Pioneer of the Nile....whatever you do, congrats and good luck!

What ever procedure you decide on stick with a few solid rules...make sure your wagers are (1)confident in that you would make the same bet again win or lose. (2)The wagers have some value where the return of the wager justifies the wager...just try to beat a vulnerable favorite.

Otherwise have fun and knock 'em dead!

If the Derby winner went off at less than 2-1 ,bet him in the Peakness.

Patience is a virtue. Wait until all the noise & hype of the Ky. Derby is over, wait until all the pretenders have fallen off the Triple Crown trail. Then start singing Maryland, My Maryland-

You asked for advice so here's mine.

Don't do it.

It seems like what you are seeking from a large wager is not money but the feeling that comes from making the large wager and then the feeling you would get if you won.

If you win that will probably lead to more big bets where the inevitable will happen. If you lose you may be tempted to play catch up and get yourself on a train that has no brakes.

Pay some bills, play like normal and be grateful. :)

Save your money or give it to charity.

go to the roulette wheel, and bet it all on red

put half on black and a 1/4 on the two lower lines that have the most black squares in them.

or if you like red put half on red and 1/4 on the upper and lower lines that have the most red squares.

play and think like you would on a normal weekend, then double or triple the amounts. It takes reserve as I have missed on tickets that I would have normally had without a bankroll, so think first actually 2 times, bet and bet it again. I did this last weekend, would have had both pick 4's at NY but got cute and missed. Anyways good luck. I would play derby day pick 3's and pick 4's. Oh yea and definately spend the 380 for an all/all exacta in the derby it wil be worth it this year. I'll take a chance on it. Oh one more thing if your are superstitious play on that day. even if its 2-3 months away.
Anyways enjoy

FreeHouse, IMHO, the Derby is the absolute worst race to handicap and put your "only" bankroll on.

My feelings about my wager on the KY Derby is that I "luck out" if I win on that one. Huge field, lots of good horses, a real coin toss in many way.

Since you are in no hurry, do what others said, pay off stuff, and while you're doing that, study ONE track for a while, get to know the horses, trainers, track, etc. Then, play a few Pick 4's and 6's, and maybe play a few races each week that you feel reasonably certain about. Use your wagering money smartly, in other words.

RESIST the urge to go out and just blow that wad of money, hoping you'll get lucky.

How about you put half of your money into an account at twinspires...We'll wait for pick six carryovers and play them... We must find 3 singles each time we play to keep the cost down..If we don't have much confidence in our 3 singles then we pass the pick 6..Then cover the other 3 races with 3-6 runners..So the maximum ticket would never be over $432...More times then not it would be less then 200 bucks..If we hit. We split it 60-40..I'll be generous and take the 40%..;)

Disregard this nonsense I posted. I thoughy you were someone else.

This would be fun. If you are a good enough handicapper to throw out 2 horses play a $2 trifecta box with 18 horses. Cost is $9792. Or better yet if you can throw out 7 horses play a $5 13 horse trifecta box for $8580.

Or for the big score, throw out 3 horses and play your pick in the WPS show spots with the other 16 horses in the superfecta, cost is 10,080 (I'll go in for the $80 if your limit is 10k:)

I would say--Thank you very much --I will try to win, then wager 2.00 to win on the #9 in the 9th race at Aqu. If there are not nine horses in the race like Sat. 4/18 then wager on the horse that has an "R" in the third letter of its name. That would be # 4 SPRITELY ML-12-1.My line says 3.5--wow !--overlay. The #7 has an R but I will stick with the Pletcher horse. The balance is now $9998 and I am a winner. I assume you have sense of humor. :)

I would add to the list -- buy yourself some new clothes. Doesn't have to be fnacy duds but a nice pair of shoes, new pair of jeans, whatever. And you'll remember, each time you use the new article, under what circumstances you acquired the article.

If you're going to do it then you should definitely do it on Derby Day when the pools are loaded with square money. BTW, this isn't a free roll; that money belongs to you and no one's making you wager.

Wait until the first NFL regular season game
on thursday night sept. 10 and take the money line
of the STEELERS at home versus the titans.

This is a LOCK.
Steelers will not lose at home to Kerry Collins
and will have last seasons Terrible Towel incident
to fuel them besides being defending champions.
