For those who aren't aware of Louisville's 2 week celebration of a 2 minute horse race, I've attached a few links.

The official web site is: www.kdf.org

The web site for the opening ceremonies (Thunder Over Louisville--a 6+ hour air show followed by the largest annual fireworks display in the US) is: www.thunderoverlouisville.org

Video of last year's fireworks is here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5899195965601147859

I'll be attending Thunder for the first time in awhile on Saturday. If you ever get the chance to check out some of the events preceding Derby, it's definitely worthwhile. It's unfortunate racing doesn't get this kind of promotion more often.

Thanks for the links...outstanding stuff. It would be a good idea, IMO...if they could get some of the 'Thunder' on primetime TV, as a prelude to the big day.

Speaking of Derby weekend, I have a quick question for the locals. Is the KY Oaks/Derby covered on any AM/FM Radio Stations or local channel? Not just the big races as they are on NBC, but the full undercards?

Infield is difficult to see a TV, let alone hear a race call. I figure with a portable TV I can see the race or with a portable radio atleast hear the call and mash it with the big screen.

Appreciate any help anyone could pass along. Didn't know I could bring in portable tv/radio last year.

On radio, the entire Derby Day is covered on whas-am 840 on your dial, and i believe they cover Oaks day as well.

On TV, the entire Derby Day is on WAVE-tv, channel 3; they also have plenty of Oaks day coverage, but I'm not sure exactly how much. If I find out, I will post.

Hope this helps.

Wow excellent response! That's exactly what I needed. I really appreciate it. Let me know when you find out on complete Oaks coverage.

I was looking--just for fun--to see if there were still hotel rooms avail. for the Kentucky Derby weekend, and surprisingly, there are! I couldn't believe it!

How close did you get? I booked four months ago and couldn't find anything reasonably priced within 10 minutes. I'm about a 15min drive from CD.

Well, that's the thing, it's not reasonable lol, but I was still surprised to see anything available.
