crypto virus

My eleven year old grandson has an old Dell laptop with Windows XP. He uses it primarily to play video games. He picked up a crypto virus. I googled this and have found no cures yet. Anyone here have any links or ideas ?

dutchboy, nothing personal but,
When i googled crypto virus i got this information. it is considered a ransom virus. they install the virus and then charge you for the removal tool. When i went to the link, downloaded the antispyware program ran same and then came time to remove. This required a 19.95 one time only charge to register software.

IT at work said the best idea is to reinstall the os.
