Garret Gomez presently has the mounts for both Pioneer of the Nile and Dunkirk, so something has to give pretty soon as far as a commitment goes to Baffert and Pletcher. Lets say that Dunkirk will make the starting gate for the Derby after next weekends races (forgetting about the Lexington the week after). So who does Gomez choose, me thinks Pioneer du to his multiple wins, but Dunkirk might have a higher last figure. So if you were Pletcher and need a rider, who would you tab ? Prado comes to mind, but with Dunkirks running style, Borel might be a good choice too. This all assumes that John V. still is on Quality Road .to make the derby.
