I got so stressed out. Highest heating bill for a large two bedroom (with 2 bathrooms - freaky, I can use one totaly for bird cage bath, etc) was more than my rent -- $572 for one month. Is that disgusting or what.

Anyway, NYS HEAP program paid $870 toward my winter bills, but I just had to pay $555, ouch and still owe $440 due right now. I actually went to ER twice with tummy pain and even got morphine it was so bad one night, due to stress. Just hadn't anticipated it at all.

Now that it's winding down I am much less stressed. I had even put up 3M sheets, but not that great, didn't blow dry them and kitties kept clawing out holes.....

I am moving to Palm springs I am I am.

had the same thing happen at My condo in cincinnati where i dont even live. i'm convinced the energy companies just throw out a number and charge you, even if you arent using their services.

You get 3 heat grants per year from NYS if you make under a certain amount, which was raised a good amount this year thankfully - $435 x 3 a year for a single person. Finally something for the working poor like me.

The heating company here takes full advantage of its cornered market. They do an excellent job, but I'm paying for the employees life style not electricity. A workman for the company agreed with me, looking embarassed.

yes, one of Obamas campaign promises was skyrocketing electricity costs, so Tom is right, these are the good ole days.

Just a thought:

If you live in a house or older apartment building, it might behoove you to poke around under the house or in the walls a bit. I have a buddy who couldn't figure out why his heating bill was so high, then he found a 18" rip in a heating duct under the house. Trying to heat the neighborhood gets expensive.
