I hit a snag today when attempting for the first time to use Formulator. When I try to buy the 'deluxe' pp's-trainer patterns and replays included-drf
gives me the basic version instead. Is there some program I must first download in order to access deluxe pp's and all the features Formulator can offer?

You need to purchase the "Enhanced PP's" to get full access to replays.

But I also want to tweak the trainer stats (I keep my own dbase for this at mnr but it's becoming toooo time consuming). Don't I need the deluxe pp's for that?

The "enhanced" should give you everything you need including trainer stat capability.
