Article in todays Orange County Register stating that Hollywood Park will conduct a fall-winter meeting this year.Jack Liebau, track president, told a meeting of the California Horse Racing Board that the track would conduct the fall meeting.Expectations were that the track would close after the upcoming spring-summer meeting and be developed.Have to think that the current economy makes the redevelopement plan not so attractive as it once seemed.Glad to see Hollypark get a life extention, even if only for a short time. The speculation will go on as to who, what, and where the SoCal racing circuit will end up as.

That was once a beautiful track that led the nation in attendance. There were many historic races there. Can't blame this one on Magna.

To my recollection Hollywood Park planned to close after 2009.
With the economy going south, they might want to extend it even further.
Their big real estate plans might have to wait.

I read where the Bay Meadows development plans are put on hold, indefinately.
No loans. Hollywood needs a 2 billion dollar loan to get it developed.
Don't think the Gov will bail them out....so it looks like that project will be on hold as well.
We heard yesterday at Santa Anita that that property (Santa Anita Racetrack) will go on the auction block on July 24th.
There are 3 bidders so far, and it will go to the highest bid.

Let me guess -- an indian tribe will bid and win both properties.

The San Manuels did attempt to bid on Hollywood Park when Hubbard sold it, but somehow they didn't get it.
I wouldn't be surprised if the San Manuels bid on Santa Anita, don't know if they will get it or not. I was surprised yesterday at Santa Anita, all their banners were taken down inside the park.
If the San Manuels get Santa Anita.....it will be a matter of time before they get Hollywood Park.
Seems they could tear the racetrack down, build a huge gambling casino/hotel and do pretty well. Right by the airport and all.

It's still a beautiful track.

I also agree, I fly out to Hollywood Park for a long weekend at the track twice a year in late June/early July and December and I always have a great time up in the Turf Club. To me Hollywood Park illustrates just how spoiled horseplayers and fans are in Southern California in terms of the ambience and beauty of their tracks. Back when the BC was out at Hollywood Park in 97 one of the guys I travelled out there with was looking out at the infield and said "I really need to get out to the track more" and the guy next to him commented "Um, tracks don't look like this in our area" :D

Well, it still beats the four-horse fields up at Golden Gate.

I'm not sure the developments they have planned for this place will pan out as they hope. It will be interesting to see if they can change the neighborhood, but it's a damn shame it has to come at the expense of a track.

Vic,
Belmont Cat made my meet. She had been working, as you know, with another top rider, who couldn't seem to get her to do her best.....Joel worked her and she went fantastic.....she looked like 10 million dollars in the paddock and was a steal at 9/1.
Thanks so much! :jump:
