I encourage you to click the graphic (http://blog.horseplayersassociation.org/) and visit the HANA Horseplayer's Association Blog. You can scroll down and find a write-up on each contender, take a look at what HANA is about , sign up as a member, and get involved.

Could you share a little more about the stamina index and what goes into it? When you say you previously used it to throw out derby horses, is that based on the index being lower than a certain number or is it just for relative comparison?

Given that SGE is out of AP Indy and Roy dams offspring have an average stakes winning distance of 9.63 on dirt, I'd have to say the I Want Revenge # is highly suspect at the very least.

I highly recommend that you ask about the stamina index here. (http://www.modern-conduit-mares.com/board/board_topic/1392916/399494.htm)
Bill Lathrop created the S.I., and has a message board at that link that has a full run of this years contenders, many that didn't make my list, as well as all the Kentucky Derby winners since 1972.

I can tell you that it is based on modern conduit mare theory, and not the more traditional sire structure that we usually hear about.

Found him on the web a couple years ago, looking for an edge, and they have been a tool worth exploring. Something that is unique and has been very well thought out.

From my own experience - high numbers don't even matter up to a mile or 1 1/16th , even a 1 1/8th with a very easy trip. They only start to show when a horse is challenged at 1 1/8th or farther. Proven Form always trumps pedigree. If a horse has won a tough 1 1/8th race, don't even look at pedigree.

Also I Want Revenge with a .97 doesn't eliminate him. - 6 winners since 1972 have had .97 or higher. War Emblem 1.02, Ferdinand 1.19. From my own "feel" .97 isn't ideal, but he's on my list as a win contender. His races are going to win me over, or cause me to pass. A run in the Wood anything like his Gotham, and he has to be respected as a top contender. Some horses have really high SI numbers , and those are really the ones I start to lean against.
