A judge decided a Ky track faked an "emergency" to bar independent contractors from trying to make an extra buck=
"In a footnote to his ruling, Shepherd also questioned the (Ky racing) Authority’s challenge to the jockey ads because of the effect it would have on the “time-honored traditions and splendor of Thoroughbred racing” for a race that is now sponsored by ****Yum! Brands***** (The Ky Derby)".
This to me represents an example of the stupidity and attempted control exerted by tracks and racing that ruins the sport. In the view of racing, it is fine to claim racing will be ruined by jockeys who are NOT on the regular payroll and risk their lives daily to try to make a buck by having ads on pants, which will be barely seen during the race day. But the greedy and 2-face racing industry and their media has no problem promoting all year and, in every mention of 1 race, a company and its subsidiaries which are at the heart of many anti-working animal protests and negative publicity, as those groups rail against racing.
IMO, all of racing and especially tracks who IMO do not do enough for crippled jockeys, as well as the racing media, ought to be in favor of and support any reasonable attempt to bring outside money into racing.
Actually, it is still ironic to me that the gate used during the biggest Tbred race has a sign above the horses saying "Yuim!", when racing tries to claim it is against eating horses after slaughter!!
