State of Florida gave them a permit. Still needs more State approvals and extensive rehab.

Would initially return as a Quarter Horse track. Hell, why not?

It is about time we reverse this closing down thing, and refurbish one of the great tracks.

Good luck

I have to hand it to Brunetti, he let Halsey Minor do all the work as far as figuring out a plan of action to bring Hialeah up to speed. Not sure how far this is going, but I consider it a positive development.

This is certainly encouraging news for those who want to see the return of racing to Hialeah. Still tons of investment required to get there, and not sure where it will come from. (Perhaps from an interested Mr. Hasley Minor?). I can't image that they would not want to run thoroughbreds at some point in time, especially on that once-beautiful TURF course.

That's good news. I have seen photos of Hialeah posted on here. The place is a wreck.
But there are lots of able bodies people who need jobs.
It will be a major project.
Talk about a stimulus program!

Lets hope they do eventually go back to T'breds TC. Although it sounds like it will only be QH due to the poker room tie in. Quarter horses do nothing for me.

If the Breeders' Cup was smart, they would buy the place and make it the permanent home of the World Championships.

It would put a lot of dough in their pockets and make logistics a ton easier.

The place would certainly be a fitting home and the weather is usually pretty good that time of year.

I hope they start by putting a timer on the turf course capable of recording fractions. :)

I didn't know 1/4 horses ran on the turf.

BTW- get to work on tonights picks - CT, Delta and Penn.

I hope they keep a lot of cash available at CT.

I had a lot of great times there in the early 1980's. I hope they bring it back to where it was 25 years ago. Good luck.

Excellant news. That place should have never been closed.Somebody on here did a pictorial about the state it's in and it was pretty bad.

With all the dates Calder runs during the year it wouldn't be hard for Florida to carve out a meet from their excessive dates.

I just have one question, does this mean Hollywood Park has to give them their Flamingos back??!!

Here is the thread with the youtube link to the track;

Wouldn't that be ironic if Hollywood shuts down, and they end up moving the Flamingos back to Hialeah?

I would love to see Gulfstream close and see Hialeah take those dates, Hialeah, Keeneland, Churchill and Saratoga are the true cathedrals of racing after all.

I bet Hialeah has an amazing track attendence when it opens, nobody notices how much they love something till it's gone.

when Hialeah is completed or refurbished etc make sure it is not like Gulfstream's design as to paddock layout and grandstand area, small and useless. The architecture is nice but not accomadating to the size crowds that are there. First time there was Saturday I will never go back.

:jump: I cannot beleive this...am I dreaming? Maybe Halsey Minor did some good afterall...maybe he put Brunetti's back against the wall...maybe getting Hialeah on the front pages again while trying to buy it from Brunetti, forced the man into action...no matter...seems that Hialeah will be resurected...by March 2010...a year from now...they sure have a ton of work to do on the place...but I beleive they already said the grandstand structure is sound, so that helps in the re building...I don't care about Quarter Horse racing...but that is a start....and no doubt, the Thoroughbreds will follow....and the Flamingos too:jump:

From what I recall from my Hialeah visit years ago before it closed , the track would be much too small to conduct a BC there. BC already stated that they would not go back to a small track and put in the temp seats again, etc,. like they did at Lone Star, Monmouth .. I think the rotation of major venues, SA, CD and Belmont is better , along with an occasional Arlington or Woodbine,as it gives local people and horses a chance over different surfaces and track configurations.

It would be great to see Hialeah back with all it's splender and beauty...we all know the track was a cherished place to spend a sunny affternoon at. I hope that some kind of deal is made and this is not just a half effort.

Put Monmouth park back in the loop, it was a beautiful weekend here this year a 360 degree turnaround from the bad weather of the 2007 Breeders Cup.

Looks as if GP will have a good 2010 as they will race from December until the end of March. Calder will race the other months. I would imagine if the slot revenue tax is decreased the purses next year at GP will be a lot more. I'm sorry you didnt like GP it still is a nice racing facility in its present form.

the race course was gorgeous and the racing facility looks nice however it is not accomodating to large crowds and the "casino" should be separte from the race track. I was surprised to see a renovated track, especially like Gulf to appear this way. I was expecting the size of Belmont.

The idea of a permanent home owned by the BC has some merit but the folks who operate the BC are not in the track ownership game. If they really wanted a permanent site for the BC I'm sure CD or SA would have landed that gig long ago.

I think 'point given' has the right idea :

Rotate the BC around the big three : CD, SA, and Belmont. And sprinkle in a little Arlington and Woodbine to keep the Euros happy with some home-style turf racing.

All of us would love to see Saratoga and Del Mar step up to the plate and host the BC. What could be better? :)

I'd like to see the stats for seating...it's been way too long for me to remember...I recall going over to the Grandstand after work in the mornings...just for a little R&R...it sure seemed big enough to hold a BC crowd...but, my memory may be fooling me...
but...we're all kinda jumping the gun here...we can sure toss around ideas and opinions...but Quarter Horse racing is still a year away, then we'd have to wait until they decide to run the TB's again...and that'll seem like forever:faint: ...anyway....just knowing Brunetti is going to begin rebuilding the place...well, let me use another word..palace...makes me happy:jump:

No race track is a huge as Belmont...
And I would assume that once they begin to rebuild Hialeah, it'll remain much the same as it was years ago...as far as the grandstand and surrounding grounds...if they do the casino thing and restaurants ect., ala Frank S...no doubt they'd use outside ground....not sure if the railroad tracks are still there...but that would be a place for a casino.
