On Friday, my soft wager in the 3rd, Carolsbeentaukin, was out of the money.
Among my contenders only selections:
My 2nd race $4 exacta box returned $16.20,
I had the winner of the 8th, Harold's Sister, $3.40,
My 10th race $8 exacta key box returned $19.80, and
My 11th race $12 exacta box returned $44.00. So it goes...

1st – Contenders Only – Shore Breeze Hero (4) has been almost flawless (11 4-5-0) and last two were close to par. Gatis is 75% ITM with first three off-the-claim. Darby Lee (8) had best fig in the field in last and comes right back for Ness who wins 38% (ITM 67%) with horses who won their last race. DD 4,8/5,10 and Trifectas 4,8/1,3,5/4,8
2nd – Contenders Only – Bluelick (5) and Circumvent (10) were heads apart in last with the best figs among today’s starters. Bluelick was claimed by Knipe who is 46% ITM with first three off-the-claim. Ness has Circumvent and he gets the nod for having a running style that’s simpatico with the track profile for 9F. Early speed has dominated dirt routes since opening day. Exacta Box 5,10 and Trifectas 5,10/1,3,4,8/5,10
3rd – Contenders Only – R Vicarious Girl (4) goes for leading turf trainer Kirk Ziadie (9-24). A horse for the course, with four wins and a place in six races. Ziadie/Homeister team are 31-45 ITM. Cut for Luck (6) posted monstrous fig in last at GP, however, she is not in the habit of winning back-to-back and goes for Caple who is winless on the turf this season. Jockey A.E. Smith is up. Exacta Key Box 4/6,7 and Trifectas 4,6,7/3/4,6,7
4th – A soft wager – Our Stormy Girl (12) ML 12-1 Seems to be getting the idea and shortens up today after flashing speed briefly at 8F on the grass. Workout on March 3rd was three clicks above par for bullets at 4F from the gate. Adds blinkers. Feliciano is batting .380 this season. Doesn’t have to beat much. The favorite, Eventful Halo (1), is handicapped by inside post position. Win (12), Exacta Key Box 12/1,7 and Saver Exactas 5,6,8,9,11/12
5th – Contenders Only – Ostin’s Miracle (7). Trainer Larry Hall was ITM 57% of the time on the grass in the last two seasons. Babo (12) is cheap but he had two sub-12 final fractions on grass at Laurel last fall. Tampa newcomer Mark Passley with Approved by Dylan (1) is 1-4 on the grass this season. Exacta Box 8,10,11 and Trifectas 8,10,11/1,3/1,3,4,7,12
6th – Contenders Only – E.F.F. Scher (9) and Miss Firecat (10) had solid performances in last two and were closest to par. R. Magical Bonnie (8) won debut and adds L1 today. Late run may be hampered by E/P favoring surface. Exacta Box 9,10 and Saver Exactas 8/9,10 and Trifectas 9,10/4,7,8,11,12/8,9,10
7th – Contenders Only – Fierce Wind (10). Phipps is perfect this season and last year’s Davis Stakes winner looks like a winner again this afternoon. Fearless Vision (7) has been very consistent and with superior figs. Eclipse winner A.E. Smith has the call for Patrick L. Reynolds. Wayzata Bay (2) was right there in last against Fierce Wind, but the speed favoring Tampa surface leaves Wayzata Bay and Dinner In Odem (9) at a disadvantage. Exacta Key Box 10/2,7 and Trifectas 2,7,10/4,5,6/2,7,10
8th – Contenders Only – For You Reppo (6) has been facing better and finds a softer spot today. If he’s gonna pop, this should be the day. RoHo has the call. Exacta Key Box 6/1,7 and Trifectas 6/1,2,3,7/1,2,3,7
9th – Contenders Only – DD Wheel All/2
10th – Contenders Only – Constitution River (2) just missed in last. Both Tampa turf wins were after a layoff. River is Ambrosia’s pride and joy and he will deliver. Not Acclaim (6) looks great but Ziadie won only 17% of the time with L1-3’s in the past two seasons. See DD Wheel in races 9 and 10, Saver Exactas 3,6,8/2
11th – Contenders Only – Burning Light (3) shortens up after saving the place in last. Gerry Bennett wins 24% with maiden claimers. Ronnie Allen Jr. has the return call. Win (3), Saver Exactas 9,12/3 and Trifectas 3/All/9,12
