6th race @ TAM Mike Straight wins @ 26-1 with his first career mount. I understand the kid's a graduate of McCarron's school and has been riding in trial races for a while. Congrats to him.

Didn't have one nickel of my money but he looked good out there. :)

He should quit right now at #1 in career ROI. ;)

They've got some non-betting (trial) races in SC (Aiken) and LA (FG and EVD) and I think some small fair circuits. I wouldn't have known that myself. Richard Grunder told me that before the races today.

Don't know if they still do this, but years ago at Remington, in order to run in a real race, a first-time-starter needed a certain amount of gate training, and to have run in what they called a training race. These races were held in the AM out of view of the general public.

At the time they had a recap show on every evening, and sometimes they would speak of horses who had done well in their training race. That was often some good info to have.

fairgrounds or LA downs used to run full blown "training races" no betting etc.........in the mornings if I remember right...........

I used to watch the replays on some website a few years back. I actually caught one nice price out of watching those races........ I forget what horse.......out of AP Indy if I remember right..........went on to some slight notoriety I believe..........

This result chart from the drf is wrong. It shows the winner was 24 lengths behind at the stretch call.
