If Einstein takes to the surface he should be a winner, I would think.

If the odds are juicy ... IF they're juicy, I will play Matto Mondo and Zambezi Sun to win.

Are Champs Elyssys and Zambezi Sun coupled??? I'm thinking ZSun may garner quite a quality price with so many other familiar names running.

Colonel John has the best beyers for the distance. Granted, only 1 of the three races was at SA.
Magnum would've been the choice if this race was run two years ago. Him & Einstein will be a staple in the exotics, though.
Matto Mondo has only stretched to 1.25m once and finished 7th back in Chile. MM needs the lead so I'm leaving him out of my P4. Cowboy Cal has shown he can handle the extra distance.
Huge fan of Court Vision but he's a turf horse.

Zambezi Sun/Cowboy Cal/Colonel John
After seeing Raven's Pass & Henry the Navigator roll in the BC Classic, I can't look past Zambezi Sun.

Yeah Joanied, wasn't it Tiago who just beat Monba last time out, that is why I
like him this time , he's overdue, losing by a nose a few times, maybe this time??

yep...Monba just missed...I'm bummed Tiago isn't running....and I hope maybe the reason why is somewhere, but I haven't seen it yet.
Truth be told, Patrick...I don't have a favorite in this edition of the SA H'cap...no Lava Man or anything running...but do look foward to a great race...
Also I am excitied to see the Gotham and the SA Oaks...but guess that's for another thread:faint:

Good luck with your handicapping, Patrick:)

I had the pleasure of watching Blue Exit (http://maryforney.blogspot.com/2009/03/blue-exit-schools-for-big-cap-at-santa.html) school for Saturday's Big 'Cap during the 2nd race at Santa Anita Thursday.

Click here to see the video (http://maryforney.blogspot.com/2009/03/blue-exit-schools-for-big-cap-at-santa.html)

He looked absolutely smashing as he went through the paces.

At seven to 2 or better, I think Colonel John is a great bet-never looked comfortable in his last at 7 Furlongs

speaking of deadbeats, let's hope the Gotham produces something better this year than Cowtown Cat or Visionaire.

Thanks....better that he got sick....probably spiked a temperature...I was afraid he might have gotten hurt in the morning....I am bummed he can't run.
I have Court Vision for place...IMO, it's a pretty wide open race, and should be a great one to watch.

I had to laugh:D at your post, cj....and you are right, he probably is...it's a nice bunch of horses, IMO, a wide open race...but, I almost mentioned in my post of my picks that the SA H'cap just doesn't give me chills this time around...there isn't a horse in there I really 'care' about...like a Lava Man...it's a shame our handicap division just isn't like it used to be with some really great older horses that take your breath away and give you reason to cheer for them.
I'll enjoy watching it non the less.

For a Derby prep, the Gotham, IMO, dosen't have a stellar field...certainly not like it has in the past...but maybe it would be Imperial Council.

My picks;
Imperial Council
Haynesfield
Alex Foley

That Einstein is one tough runner. I never play him, but a great horse.

Good for Helen Pitts. Lost Curlin but now has a $1 million race winner.

Yep, glad to see her win this, although I had to take a mega dose of pepto to bet him being owned by those dirtbag lawyers of Midnite Cry. As it was I blew the exacta anyway only going 6 deep and leaving out the 13 @27/1. that after getting pummeled at the Big A with a 49/1 for a p3 and a 50/1 at gulf for an exacta. What a day

He also showed once again that turf horses win the graded routes going long on synthetics.

Einstein is the best multi-surface horse I can remeber...
He wins on Turf, Dirt, Poly....
Seems like no matter what he runs on he runs with a lot of heart.

Good point.....the longer ones seem, visually at least, like turf races, the more I watch them.

Does anyone know what happened to Blue Exit and if he is OK? His pulling up seemed to cost Champs Elysees a bit as he had to take up and over a bit when Blue Exit was pulling up and going backwards into the field.

No idea what happened to him. Blood Horse just says "injuries" and TB Times seems oblivious. Gotta be something on him somewhere...
