On Sunday, my soft wager in the 9th, Cardinal Nation, was second.
Among my contenders only selections:
My 1st race $12 exacta box returned $13.60,
I had the winner of the 3rd, Regwell, $3.40,
I had the winner of the 4th, What's the Deal, $6.60,
My 8th race $36 trifecta wager returned $140.00, and
I had the winner of the 10th, Biblionico, $8.00. So it goes...
Tuesday’s selections at www.thetbdhandicapper.com:
1st – Contenders Only – She’s On Fire (6) has had two wins and a second in four starts at the open $5000 level lifetime, ditto for She’s Due for One(4), who has a win and a third in two tries this level. The former has consistently raced with better and had five wins against those. Banyan Tree (1). Her 4YO figs say she can compete at this higher level and this lightly raced filly has been handled with care by Zwiesler. Zwiesler/Montalvo team is 13-19 ITM. Banyan Tree will have to overcome the inside post position, as PP’s 1 & 2 have won less than ½ their fair share of races in the past month. Exacta Key 6/4,7 and Trifectas 6/1/All.
2nd – Contenders Only – Special Jak (7) drops to rock bottom for Fontana after racing close to par at the distance three back. Switches to a leading jockey, Mike Allen, to bring it home. The stretchout, Monday Morning (9) has %E that is outside the upper limit for 8.5F. Win (7), Saver Exacta 2/7 and Trifectas 7/2,3,4/2,3,4
3rd – Contenders Only – Tabouli (8). LA Gonzalez sticks with this twice beaten favorite and he will keep Tabouli closer to the early leader today. Was gaining late in last. Diablo’s Got Back (9) early pace improves with each start and it looks like he’ll have it his own way up front again this afternoon. Exacta Box 8,9 and Trifectas 8,9/3,4,10/8,9
4th - Contenders Only – Stepaside Girls (3) had above par fig in winning last, but Behrens wins 0% rightback and 3% fastback in last two seasons at Tampa. Repeat doesn’t appear likely. Seed of Faith (1) is handicapped by the inside post. Exacta Box 4,5,9 and Trifectas 4,5,9/1,3/4,5,9
5th – Contenders Only – Awesome Charlie (8) and Canadian Jade (11) have satisfactory final fractions. FTS Bermuda (6) goes for Clement, who has two wins and a second in last three starts. Centeno is up. Prince Repent (5) comes back fast for Allen, who has good success with fastbacks and Dirt-to-Turf types. Dam has three turf winners from eight starters. Exacta Key Box 8/5,6 and Trifectas 5,9,11/6,8/5,6,8,9,11
6th – Contenders Only – Poundcake (4). Ridden out in last, an above par win. Griffith has great record when bringing them back fast. Poundcake is 75% ITM at Tampa and Griffith/Montalvo team is 27-46 ITM this season. Disbelief (7) drops to this level for the first time. Had great run last year and is 9-20 ITM at Tampa lifetime. Pyschic Star (2) has never won two in a row. Exacta Box 4,7 and Trifectas 4,5,/4,5,7,8/4,5,7,8
7th – A prime wager, Gesundheit (6). Great efforts with fast early fractions in both grass starts. Gets right back to winning form today. Manning is 3-7 on the turf this year. Manning was 27% win and 50% ITM on grass last two seasons. Leading rider Daniel Centeno is in the irons. Win (6), Saver Exacta 1/6 and Trifectas 6/1,5,9,13/1,5,9,13
8th – Contenders Only – Victoria Bay (3) was above par in Tampa debut and was above par in eight of last ten. Stretchout not a problem. Win (3), Saver Exactas 6,9/3 and Trifectas 3/6,9/2,5,6,9,11
9th – Contenders Only – Avoid Acqua Azul (7). McBride loses 97% off the claim and 97% going up in class. Trifecta Box 2,3,5,8
10th – Contenders Only – Numero Uno Lady (1) threw one bad one in last at 1-5. I have only one explanation. The moon was full. It screws up people, why not horses? Today we're looking at a waxing crescent. Should not pose a problem. Still has the undesirable inside post, but adds Centeno. Highlite Girl (9). McCooey was ITM 60% of the time with long layoffs in last two seasons. Stats payoff. Exacta Box 1,9 and Trifectas 1,9/2,6/1,9
