I am curious which is faster?

One speed is my Verizon wireless card speed. 115.2 Kbps

The other is a Wi-Fi connection to the truckstop. 54 mbps

I want to add they are both small b's not big B's

Otherwords Mbps and Kbps not MBps or KBps

It seems that M would be faster no???

Thanks

115.2 Kbps = 115200 bytes per second

54 mbps = 54000000 bytes per second

The network is (much) faster than your machine. The prefix K (kilo) means 1000x multiplier, prefix M (mega) means 1000000x multiplier, and prefix G (giga) means 1000000000x multiplier.

Small letter prefixes are for fractions. Technically, mbps is milli, 0.001x, but I know where you're coming from. Detail counts.

Thank you Sir

So M is faster than K... by a lot of zero's

Thought so

Lower case "b" is bits. Upper case "B" is bytes -- 8 bits.

this is the only thing harder to understand than the daily racing form

This should also be less expensive, no?

The speed ratings on network devices are what they are capable of. What you actually experience will be less than that and how much less will depend on a variety of factors the most important one being available bandwidth.

Or like that old TV commercial: your mileage may vary!

I prefer keeping track of things in nibbles per second.

I prefer keeping track of things in nibbles per second.

Being an old school handicapper, I prefer furlongs per fortnight (the speed that some of my prime bets run  )

How about a nail per nanosecond?
