NYRA ends betting cut-off

As of Saturday, the New York Racing Association had planned to end its policy of cutting off betting at offtrack sites when the first horse enters the gate, NYRA officials said Friday.
The change was to take place the same day NYRA was to hold the Wood Memorial, its biggest Triple Crown prep and one of the most popular racing days on Aqueduct's calendar. Bill Nader, a senior vice president at NYRA, said it was changing the policy because the association "feels comfortable with the integrity of the pools now."
Nader said that no new security measures have been recently put in place. He said, however, that Aqueduct has been able to reduce the time it takes to update odds to 30 seconds, down from a minute.
NYRA put the policy in place last November in response to concerns coming out of the Breeders' Cup Pick Six investigation, hoping to dampen suspicions that bets were being placed after horses had left the gate. Ontrack customers were still able to bet until the gates opened.
