Plan to Raise Taxes on the Rich Is Gaining Momentum
By JEREMY W. PETERS
ALBANY — A plan to raise income taxes on wealthy New Yorkers is gaining momentum in the State Legislature as lawmakers continue to grapple with the state’s gaping budget deficit.

A group of Senate Democrats plans to introduce a bill on Tuesday that would impose an income tax of 10.3 percent on the highest-earning New Yorkers, a rise of 3.45 percentage points, and increase taxes on all households that earn more than $250,000 a year.

The plan, which supporters estimated could bring in up to $6 billion annually to the depleted state treasury, is one of several options Albany lawmakers are considering as an alternative to the reductions in social services and smaller, more focused tax increases that Gov. David A. Paterson has proposed.

New York to lead U.S. in job losses
"Financial jobs are crucial, they are high paying, they generate income spent on law firms, restaurants and ad agencies," said Jim Diffley, managing director of at IHS Global Insight. "There will be spill-over that will be pretty broad."

The unemployment rate in the New York area is expected to jump to 7.6% in the fourth quarter of 2009 from an estimated 6.1% in the same period last year.

These politicians in New York are just a bunch of incompetent parasites. Yep, they are going to tax all those rich bankers, brokers, traders and Fund executives that are withdrawing their decimated 401K's , trying to unload their second homes, sell their yachts and at the same time applying for unemployment insurance.

BTW.. anyone see that "genius" Rudy Giuliani's statement regarding the huge bonuses bankers were able to pay themselves with TAXPAYER TARP money?

Rudy the phony (it was Bloomberg who turned the city around after 9/11, not that jerk) thinks it's a good idea the bankers get these huge bonuses regardless of the fact that they caused this mess and led they're banks (and our country) into bankruptcy.

Rudy said "These people go to expensive restaurants, buy fancy cars and yaghts, and spend in ways to keep the economy going."

Good thing he's no longer Attorney General... Bernie Madoff's case would never get prosecuted.
