Scott Daruty was kind enough to return my call and give his side of the impasse in sending signals from the Tracknet collection of tracks to Nevada.

In a simple form, he said for every dollar wagered, there is 20 cents to be divided between the provider and receiver.

Presently, the tracks receive about 3.5 cents and Nevada gets the rest.

He asked me what I thought would be a just division.

I said negotiations should start at a 50-50 split and go from there as each
said spells out its overhead costs and pleads its case.

If I recall correctly, I believe Tracknet was looking at a 3 cent increase.

I wonder what other horseplayers would use as a starting point for negotiations, hopefully leading to a settlement, and what they would consider a fair increase.

Make it ten cents out of every dollar wagered and they can fight about it as long as they want.

Daruty is making the foolish assumption that Vegas needs horse racing.
