Thursdays selections:
1st Contenders Only Clemson (1) was close to par in debut and surprised at 28-1 finishing 3rd. Adds L1 and loses 3lbs. Can he go longer? Will Dehn get second win of season? Terry D (3) was through early after setting a fast early pace, was beaten by 20 lengths and his fig for that race was still close to par. Arterburn is batting .380 this season. Win (3), Exacta Box 1,3 and Trifectas 3/All/1
2nd Contenders Only Algazara (4) ML 2-1. McCarthy is 2-95 with shippers at Tampa in the last three seasons. Looks good on paper, but Im off Algazara. Exacta Key Box 2/1,5 and Trifectas 2,5/3,4,7,8/1,2,5
3rd Contenders Only Diligent Won (10) ML 2-1. Another top choice that doesnt sit right with me. Diligent Won is 0-14 in 08-09 and 2-30 at Tam lifetime. I see the potential for a wild card here and Im going with Hots is Hot (7) and Pyschic Star (9) based on sprinting records of the distant past. Exacta Box 7,9 and Trifectas All/7,9/7,9
4th Contenders Only Win (3), Exacta Key Box 3/1,4,7
5th A prime wager, Squires Wingman (5).Drops to this level for the 1st time after racing above par in last five races. Has enough early speed to put these away. Win (5), Exacta Key Box 5/2,8 and Trifectas 1,2,4,9/5/1,2,4,7,8
6th Contenders Only Azura (7). Proctor wins 31% and is ITM 62% with L4-8s. Monstrous work from the gate on 1/31 was four clicks above par for bullets (from the gate) and tells me Azura is ready to rock n roll. Final fractions are all in the zone. Exacta Key Box 7/3,10, Saver Exactas 1,5,8/7 and Trifectas 3,10/1,5,8/7
7th Contenders Only Exacta Key Box 4/5,8 and Trifectas 3,7/4,5,8/3,4,5,7,8
8th Contenders Only Exacta Key 2/7,11,13,14 and Trifectas 2/3,10,11/7,11,13,14
9th A soft wager, Fire Chief (6). Rex Stokes is having a great season at Mnr and travels 1063 miles to ride the Fire Chief who broke his maiden with Stokes in the irons in October. Jake Secor was 6-19 in 2008. This one is seriously intended, no doubt. Win (6), Exacta Key Box 6/4,8 and Trifectas 6/1,5,7/1,4,5,7,8
