Two years ago today Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro was euthanized.

Also of note, on this date in 1973 Forego, the eventual three-time Horse of the Year from 1974-1976, broke his maiden by eight lengths in his second career start, at Hialeah Park.

I'd forgotten that Forego didn't even race until his three-year-old season. (It's probably just as well. Secretariat would have been mighty tough competition in any year, and the later start probably helped contribute to the length and quality of Forego's career.)
