Took a vacation from my lap top and never went into the sports book..

Played craps (come betting only), took maximum (true) odds and did ok.

Looked at all the numbers as if they were post time favorites.

2-1 on the 4 and 10
3/2 on the 5 and 9
6/5 on the 6 and 8.

Made an occasional bet on the hard 6 and hard 8.

House gives 10-1 on the hard 6 and hard 8.
but only 8-1 on the hard 4 and hard 10...strange!

Looked to me I was getting true odds on the 6 and 8.

One night, held the dice for what seemed 45 minuets between four of us at one end of the table.

People were trying to bet into the game, but the table was so full, the pit boss was turning them away.
Lot of fun.

What casino pays 10/1 for a hard 6 & 8? I have never heard of a break even wager in a Nevada casino and I've been here a LONG time.

They generally say "10-for-1" which means "9-to-1" because you get YOUR dollar back as part of the 10.

Dave, well I hit with $25 on the hard 6 or 8 and they gave me $250 and I had to tell them that the bet was "on" on the come-out roll so I did keet the original bet, ...I may be wrong about it, but it seemed that way. I don’t play craps that often and very rarely bet anything but pass/don’t pass w/ odds.

We were staying at the Bellagio.

Their "21" games are varied. At "Prime Time" they have a $300 min on two deck, $100 min on 5 decks from a shoe, and $10 min at some horrible device that has 6 decks and constantly reshuffles. I saw but 4 or 6 , 2-deck games, and perhaps 6 or so 5 deck from a shoe games and the rest (too many to count) 6 decks from that reshuffling shoe.

Now that I'm thinking about it again and again, maybe they gave me $225.

and I remember you entertaining us with a couple of stories from the sands of the Vegas casinos.
Well I was just wondering if you had the time to throw another one here. I think I remember you quoting the Snoz, Jimmy Durante, " I got a million of em". I know you do.:)

Okay, how 'bout this one...

1975. I am dealing day shift at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas. (Steve Wynn has only had the place a short while.) I am dealing 21, double deck. (Usually dealt craps.)

A cocktail waitress (still in uniform) from the Horseshoe (across the street) has been playing all night, had then stuck a few thousand dollars but has since blown all of what she had, written a half-dozen checks that she could not cover, begged all the credit she could, and in general worn out her welcome. When they refused to give her any more credit or take another bad check (and they knew her checks were no good, but that is another story), she said, "I'll bet these..." and, well, you get the picture.

Dave

PS: I REALLY tried to get a couple of hooter-like smiles going here. Wonder what I did wrong? <G>

Formula, they pay less on hard 4 and 10 than hard 6 & 8 because believe it or not, hard 4&10 easier to make. But I'm with Dave, don't think you got 10-1 on the 6&8 hardways.

I figured it out. Its easier to BEAT a hard 6 and 8 then BEAT a hard 4 and 10.

Realizing that you lose the hard bet if the soft is thown. It's easier to throw a soft 6 or 8 then a soft 4 or 10.

I'm sure you guys are right about the 10-1 payout. I probably got $250 back, including my origional bet.

It's not 10 to 1 odds as quoted on the table, rather 9-1.
They quote slots odds in the same manner. 1-1 odds simply means you get your money back.

So in the case of "10-1", it really means their 9 to my 1.
Dont let the tracks in on that. ;)

Fits in here with Daves story and the hardways bet.Ten + years ago,at the stardust.I get up early Sunday morning so I can throw the bones for a couple of hours before I have to go to the airport ,so I arrive at the Stardust at 5 oclock in the morning.Only table going had three people ,an Oriental guy called the Doctor,a ragged looking chick and her boyfriend. The "Doctor" guy was betting all his money on the hard six, about 1000 at a time.Well I started playing with 20 bucks. After an hour,Doctor had to draw another 10 grand from his casino card,I'm holding my own and so is the skank and loverboy.Doctor is still hammering the hard six.I throw a hard six and the skank starts yelling for the Dr. guy.Well,he doubles up his bet and the skank sezs man if you hit this I'm gonna whip out my   s.Never been so glad to seven out in my life.
