Some of the written assessments are provided below.

13:15 Gulfstream R1 No2 Radio Relay (2) - lightly raced improver by Cherokee Run line sire Kafwain who is forging a reputation with his early crop runners, this one out of a Seattle Slew mare and was a $100K Keeneland Sept purchase in 2006, comes into this having 6th career start and broke maiden 3 back at Woodbine in $12.5K Mdn Clm company by 1l in a field of 14, 2 back died on its run in deep stretch after looking the winner midstretch, drawn well to get a softish trip here on the front end and subject to further improvement being lightly raced.

13:43 Gulfstream R2 No5 Sammy Van Ammy (2) - comes into this 1st up from a spell (10 weeks), lightly raced having only 12th career start and switches back to the turf after winning 3 of last 5 on the dirt, all 3 against stronger than it faces here, , was placed in 2 strong turf stakes races 8 and 9 starts ago for $60K and $200K tags, well bred type by storm Cat line stallion Van Nistelrooy out of a Henbane mare who has produced 5 winners from 5 starters including 1 turf winner and 1 stakes winner.

14:11 Gulfstream R3 No5 Run All Day (2) - well bred type by War Chant (Danzig) out of the stakes placed Rahy mare La Ronge whos only other runner to the track so far has been a winner, comes into this having 4th career start and 1st up from a spell on the back of 3 very solid efforts at Woodbine including last start 2nd btn 1l over 1m70y in $73K Mdn company, on pace type who should get a good trip tracking leaders or leading under an even tempo at best, will prove hard to run down in deep stretch.

14:40 Gulfstream R4 No12 National Captain (2) - hard to dismiss the chances of the South African bred import horse National Captain here, well bred by Captain Al out of the Secret Prospector mare National Secret, won 3 from 8 and has only missed a place once in 8 starts since shipping in from Dubai, 1st up here and likely to go forward and cross the face of the field from the wide gate as one on only 2 noted on pace types engaged here, should get a soft trip through the middle stages and kick on hard in deep stretch, twice place in G3 company since coming to the USA and consistently above the level required to win here, a classic drop, win and claim commodity.

16:07 Gulfstream R7 No1 Southern Exchange (2) - lightly raced improver by hot Danzig line sire Exchange Rate out of the Woodman mare Miss Madeleine, comes into this 1st up from a spell having 6th career start, won first 3 starts on end in very impressive fashion inc a Stakes success for a $150K tag by 3.5l over 6f at Woodbine 3rd time out, 4th start duelled on the front end over 7f contesting the Del Mar Futurity G1 when btn 4th 1.2l, 1st up here over that same trip reads very well for the class of foe it faces here, drawn perfectly to secure a good trip on pace likely tracking leaders, should prove too strong in deep stretch with superior closing pars.

16:36 Gulfstream R8 No4 Elusive Lady (1) - leant towards the lightly raced improver by Van Nistelrooy out of the Unbridled's Song mare Song Of Royalty, Elusive Lady here, comes into this having 9th career start and is 2nd up from a spell having only 2nd start on turf, tune up run last start saw it die on its run in deep stretch, better for fitness from the run, won at G3 level having 3rd career start then subsequently placed in a further 3 G2 & G3 races since, likely to get a good trip on pace tracking leaders from better than midfield, big overs prepost, has claims.

17:05 Gulfstream R9 No2 Flashover (1) - very open affair with plenty of value to be had about this one, comes into this having 3rd career start subject to considerable improvement on its last start 1st up win over 6f at Santa Anita in $40K Allowance company, came from well off the pace that day unleashing big late race pars to win going away by 2l, suited by the pace scenario here with a lot of pace engaged on the front end, well bred by hot yound Nureyev line sire Unusual Heat out of the Skywalker mare Air Force One, produced 2 big bullet works recently before 1st up win inc 4f in 45.4 at Santa Anita on 29 December, warrants respect at big overs.

17:45 Gulfstream R10 No3 Macho Again (1) - gone the proven class angle here leaning towards Macho Again here, 2nd up from a spell and totally worth forgetting 1st up effort when down the track in $60K stakes company, 1st up last prep scored in G2 company with the Jim Dandy over 1m1/8th then franked that when 2nd 2 starts later in the Super Derby to My Pal Charlie, 6 back ran 2nd to Big Brown in The Preakness over 1m3/16th, clearly the best exposed form of these and gets a good alley suggesting it will get every hope to close off over the top of its foes from a midfield stalking position.

In the 7th race at Gulfstream I like the #11 You Luckie Mann with two longshots #3 and #6. The trifecta could be huge. Foz fozpicks.com
