War Horses

Did you know the British lost over 326,000 horses in the Boer War? The Aussies contributed many horses to this war and to save their mounts from a terrible life after the war some soldiers shot their horses between the eyes rather than subject them to the misery that may have been ahead. So sad.

Horses came also from NZ, Canada, India and Ceylon. They had a hard time from the heat, disease and lack of fodder for the daily tasks they endured in that vast country.

A great uncle of mine died in that War.
