So this will be my first 'new year' as a horse player...I started to get interested in this in early summer this year, so I basically missed the big triple crown races this year.

My question is, do you guys usually clean up on the Triple Crown days? Not necessarily the K. Derby, Preakness, etc. itself but on the undercard races? It would seem to me that these days probably got the most unsophisticated money going into the pools...a lot of folk out just to drink mint juleps, betting names and numbers. I think a sharp player could really find some value on those days.

I play full cards nine times every year. KY Derby, Preakness, Belmont, 2 BC days, and 4 days at Saratoga over Travers weekend. In short, yes, those Triple Crown race days are wonderful opportunities. You still need to do your homework and handicap vigorously to get the edge, but in general the skilled and prepared player should enjoy a decided advantage and generous payoffs.
