JOE KELLEY'S PLAYS OF THE DAY AT AQUEDUCT DEC. 26TH, 2008
Hope everyone is enjoying their holidays. The nearly two week break at the Big A gave us time to charge our handicapping batteries. Spent the days doing some research on some old, but still good handicapping principles that sometimes take a vacation from our brains. Traveled up to Montreal and drove thru some heavy-duty wintery roads. Let's get rolling with a nice nine race Friday card.
RACE 1: You should always look for a false or vulnerable favorite first and foremost when considering diving into a race. The entry # 1 HADRIAN'S IMAGE/ # 1A ENERGY CENTER certainly are strong runners and their previous numbers put them right in the top contenders. But neither has run a race over the Aqueduct inner and we are certainly not going to crown them champs of this 35K claimer just yet. # 8 MAKE THE POINT won last out on this surface and now takes a step up the ladder. Like it when a horse steps up and has great early pace figures. # 7 COLIE Z cuts back from a route and drops in a more suitable class level. Greg DiPrima wins at 18% with second time as trainer.
PLAY: Win bets on # 7 and # 8 at 5/1 and higher. Exacta key box # 1/#1A with # 7, 8.
_____________
RACE 4: # 4 BIG MEGILLA adds blinkers and should be right in front at the first call. Sydney Dutrow trains and should have this gelding ready to love the inner track.
PLAY: Win bet on # 4 at 7/2 and higher.
_____________
RACE 6: Not sure if we will get an overlay. But we love the # 6 MOMENT SENSOR. Drop in class with a positive rider switch to Ramon Dominguez. Bruce Brown wins at a nasty 19% first time training. Erase the debut from your memory as he stumbled badly.
PLAY: If # 6 gets anything over 5/2, let's drop win bet down.
_________
RACE 9: Not the sharpest of fields and we will look at two horses to beat the likely fave # 1 COOL TALES. # 8 SHIP'S PIANO has some early foot in past races and John Parisella is a great trainer with second off the layoff. # 7 ALL IN NO OUTS loves the inner and if he is on his game, he could run down any horses in the stretch.
PLAY: Win wagers on # 7 and # 8 at 5/1 and better. Exacta key box # 1 with # 7 and # 8.
