I just received my monthly newsletter from the National Museum of Racing and
Hall of Fame.

Allan Carter , historian of the Museum offers the following information:

" Contrary to most expert opinionds, the Thoroughbred can outrun the Cheetah and antelope at distances of one mile and over."

When Dr. Fager ran his record mile at 1:32 1/5, had he not carried 134 lbs, his
second quarter would have equaled a rate of speed of 56.8 MPH!

Secreatriat's mph in the Triple Crown events were 37.7 mph,37.4 mph
and 37.5 mph.

Finally, for those curious what A.P. in A.P. Indy stands for:

Answer is Auto Polis,a leisure Center in Japan built by the Colt's owner,
Tomonori Tsurumaki.

A.P.'s Breeder was Wm Farish III and Wm Kilroy, and is a son of Seattle Slew,
out of the Secreatriat mare , Weekend Surprise.

He sold for $333,000 in the Ky July 1990 sale, and his race record
was 8 for 11 at $2,980,000

Happy and safe holiday to all :jump: :D :) ;)

A. P. Indy was a $2.9 million yearling - I have no idea where you got the 333K price from. I also assume Dr. Fager was running that weight free 2nd quarter down a pretty steep hill.

Additionally, it is impossible to calculate the effect of less or no weight in this case or any other for that matter, be it human or equine.

That's just silly though it doesn't take anything away from a truly frabjous run.

I don't know who the track announcer was but he sounded like a moderate version of Mike Battaglia.

Why it's the great Phil Georgeff of course who called a mere 96,000 races. Sounds like Battaglia?? I don't get it.

It's just an OPINION - I feel like he has the same whiney, nasally tone as MB to a slight degree. BTW- I've only been following racing for 20 years so knowing all the track announcers would not be my forte.

It's Phil, they have it playing at Arlington all the time. Phil, was the voice of Chicago racing for 30 years plus.
