In Hawaii, no less.

Looks like Texas Tech was the one that got the shaft. Lose one game in the best conference in the country, and then you get to go to DALLAS???

One of my gripes, among many, with the BCS is the way they've strung out the games too long. This season they have a Thursday, Friday, and a Saturday to get them in....they could use Monday the fifth if they have to isolate the Grand Finale. Why wait a week 'til the Eighth? That's just dumb.

Agreed rastajenk.

I also don't like the fact there aren't as many games on Jan. 1 as there used to be.

And, then maybe get beat there by a lesser-ranked school out of CJ's basement, Ole Miss! This will be a delight to watch, probably the 2nd most entertaining game after the big enchilada. Everybody knows about Graham Harrell but Jevan Snead (Miss QB) will be a household name after this game. Difference in the game IMO is Crabtree. Will the scoreboard hold the points?

Notre Dame in a Bowl Game? I thought that was some kind of joke! It sure as hell should be, as they have absolutely no business in a Bowl Game, ESPECIALLY in Hawaii as another poster noted! Nice vacation IRISH for accomplishing NOTHING!

Ridiculous!

The bowl system has little to do with merit and championships and much to do with money. That's why a playoff just won't happen. Too much sponsorship money is lost. As for ND, they did win enough, barely, to qualify. Surprised they weren't given a better one as whichever they get is going to be a cash cow. Here's hoping their christmas trip to Hawaii is not a happy one.

How many SEC teams in Bowl games, vs. Big 12 teams in Bowl games, just curious? How many are heads up?

Mr Tebow has his Trophy already, and does not need another, even he said this, and asked not to be considered for it again, but who listens anymore.

This guy will get Tebow's leftover Hiesman Trophy, you only need 1 anyway.

Anyone that thinks OU doesn't have a defense hasn't watched what they did to TT and Missouri. Tech/Ole Miss should tell us a lot, and I don't see any way Ole Miss is scoring with those guys.

Sure the defenses look good in the SEC. If Maryland got to play LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, etc, they'd be a top 10 defense.

again...same thing as 06....Fla'.s offense was pedestrian...AT BEST...

oh...by the way...TexT....does not want to be in that game....ole Miss...DOES...

ATTITUDE often wins games as well....NOT flash/glitter! ;)

ALSO...

on a DIFFERENT note...

Okie LEFT starter's in for 5 game 60 pt. run...while Fla. pulled theirs for 4th qtr.s in last 5/6 games...

Fla.was in 2 tough games...lostone (they had a shot)...and won one...which now they KNOW they CAN WIN a tOUGH game...

and OKIE...can they win a tough CLOSE game???

nah...they'll probably blow Fla. off the field

Nope. Bradford a great thrower and doesn't make many mistakes but he does not carry the team on his shoulders.

However the point spread is still in play. When the spread is resting on a number such as 3 or 7 or 10, bookmakers will move the vig around as much as possible to try and keep their book balanced, before moving the point spread itself.

I've watched pretty much every OU game, and they would be in deep trouble without him. He isn't good because of the system, he is flat out good.

The question was "what do the numbers mean?", not how do they relate to moving lines.

Two separate and distinct bets--the point spread, and the money-line. When you make a wager on one, it is in no way dependent on the other.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but the numbers shown ARE NOT THE MONEY LINE. They are the point-spread line with the vig either at 100-110 or some other pair depending on the bookmaker's situation. Somebody posted the correct interpretation of what -110, etc. means but in this case it is all in conjunction with the point-spreads involved.

The money line is entirely separate, does not involve the point spread and is used to equalize the money on "straight up" bets involving who will win the game...no points involved.

The odds that I posted HAVE NO MONEY LINES in them. It's too early in the betting vis-a-vis when the game will be played to post a money line. Although if you went to LV they would probably have a money line posted for those games. The lines that I posted came from Pinnacle FWIW.

GaryG

Pinnacle shows the money line as:

Florida -159
Oklahoma +144

Point spread is Florida by 3 1/2

Fact. 0u has played one 60 minute game in 2008. They're 0-1 in this type of game.

Seriously, when was the last time Bob Stoops won a tight game vs an opponent with equal talent when he had a top 10 team? Not this year vs TEXAS. Not vs USC. Not vs West Virginia. Not vs LSU.

Didn't they beat Missouri to deny them a shot at the BCS title just last year in the Big 12 title game? It is hard to blame him for not having very many tight games.

To me how can one really make money playing money lines, seems ridiculous to me, unless betting in 6 figures.

Point spread, or like me straight up is the bet I would make if I chose to bet on football, other than the teaser things they got in Vegas.

#1- College football - Div 1A- The point spread only affects 27-28% of all games, either way.
#2- NFL is about 32% either way
#3- the proof regarding money lines is that many books won't deal with them.
#4- money line parleys of 2 or more teams can and do pay lots of $$$ for a reasonably small wager.

Teaser bets are the absolute dumbest bet one can make- the books love 'em- if the books did not, they would not be available.

He we go again, my playing teasers is "dumb", a bet 1 can make for 1.00 and win a few bucks if you were right that day..

I would like you to elaborate more on your #4 , as you claim $$$ for small wagers, how small and how large is $$$?

Too many bowls to keep track of. I miss the old days when a bowl game really meant something. Rose, Orange, Sugar, and Cotton - that's all we really need!

How many bowls are there,34?That means that over half of the 119 teams in Division 1A(or whatever they call it now) is going to a bowl.6-6 teams do not deserve to play in a post season bowl.7-6 or 7-5 teams do not deserve to play in a post season bowl. Most 8-4 teams do not deserve a bowl bid.9-3 or better, okay. We oldtimers recall when there were just 4 major bowls, all played on New Years Day(Orange,Sugar,Cotton,Rose),and 4 or 5 minor ones played the week before. The mighty dollar and TV revenue rules the roost today.College football almost seems to mirror the rest of society today;just show up and you get rewarded.Of all the bowls, only 5 or 6 of them are of much interest to this fellow. The best of them is USC/Penn State, matching the Pac Ten champ vs. the Big Ten champ, just like the good old days.

I wonder if you could have bet, before the season, that of the 68 teams in bowls that both Michigan and Tennessee would not be among them, and how much that would have paid.

What amazes me is that people actually show up to watch these wretched bowl games.

What amazes me is the seats are nearly empty in some of those games and they keep playing them year after year . :p

Amen. Went to the Tennessee - Penn State game in Tampa a couple years ago and it was the WORST football game that I've ever been to. Two teams with boring offenses in a game that was repeatedly delayed with team timeouts, TV timeouts, injury timeouts and penalties. Best play of the game was an 80-yd fumble recovery & run back for a TD. Oh, and it rained in the 2nd half! Tix were about $125 each and parking was another $25.

That's due to the reason that I talked about above why there will never be a playoff. There's so much money made in the sponsorship that ticket sales simply become the gravy. Name the bowls that don't have a sponsorship.

Sponsorships are taking a hit in this economy. I'm not saying they will go away, but that gravy train is slowing down.

There was a computer guy in the book "Scared Money" (see the Handicapping Library section) that was cleaning up on teasers.

He was definitely in the minority.

Do you remember Fred of "Fred and Margies" bar down the street? Fred booked (for fun) and I (ahem) "helped" him with his phone. He made tons of monopoly money on teasers. Biggest sucker bet ever. 20% juice. Pretty stiff rake to overcome.
