So I ask .. what is going on ?? One would have to presume .. that the
figures are NOT good. New York and California DO report daily.

For handle, one could add up the pool sizes as listed in the charts. For attendance, one could probably use his fingers.

On track handles everywhere are so embarassing it's not funny. So you know the attendance figures can't be good.

In Kentucky there has been a bill for the 2009 legislative session prefiled that, among other things, will force the racetracks to report all of their handle data. House Bill 94 (http://www.lrc.ky.gov/record/09RS/HB23.htm) probably doesn't have a great chance to pass, but makes for an interesting debate topic...

When tracks began going to free admission it rendered attendance numbers useless. And even tracks that still charge count free licensees, employees, spinners on give-away days, and other artificial props to bump up the number. Once upon a time attendance was used to compare and contrast per capitas in handle, concessions, program usage, etc; now I guess they just go with raw numbers and hope for the best.

Compared with November 2007, wagering was down 9.7% this November despite a 5.68% increase in race days. For the year, wagering is down 6.17% compared with last year

Most track quit publishing attendance when they started the intertrack wagering, if I remember correctly. The reasoning I guess was the attendance no longer related to the handle?
