Headline on MSN this morning: "Obama: Tell me how to fix health care"

Remember when someone was elected president because they had enough life experience and historical/political knowledge to have developed a core philosophy about what government's role should be, and then used that philosophical basis as a guiding principle for formulating proposals of their own about where the nation should be headed, and had the political savvy to know how to go about getting those ideas implemented? That's what distinguishes a leader from a mouthpiece who can argue any position, and then waits to see which way the wind is blowing in order to determine the "right" thing to do.

If Obama had been elected in 1932, the "First 100 Days" (and many more) would have been taken up with focus groups to define the problems the nation was facing. (And were those problems any less severe than what we face now?)

I think we have it backwards....do the focus groups, formulate a plan, have details, THEN run for friggin office, on measurables, not vague promises of change. A guy in a comma who dies experiences change.
