It has caused some hmmms as Patrick Husbands and James McAleney are tied with one week to go. The Woodbine meet is one of the longest meets in North America (April to December).
Yesterday is race 3 Patrick Husbands was on the chalk, but it was the lack of aggressiveness by the number 3 horse (Bug's Boy) ridden by Patrick's brother that has a few players calling foul.
Go to Calracing and watch the race: http://www.calracing.com/replays/index.php For Woodbine you have to search by horse so search for the name "Come On Love"
The second race was won by Simon (he only has around 13 wins all year), and the times for the second and third races were around 2 seconds slower than they should have been relative to their class and the other times that day.

Not exactly an all out effort by Simon. If I had the horse he'd on my list and it ain't no Christmas list.

Did you download it, or is it upload it?
Anyway, I added it to my blog post today, which also includes the 60 Minutes segment on the 20 million dollar internet poker scam:

It certainly looked like he was only interested in finishing second.

This was posted at Jen Morrison's blog regarding the ride:
from trainer John LeBlanc Jr.:
December 2, 2008
Well, here it is straight from the trainer, husband and father of the owners, as well as exercise rider of Bug’s Boy.
While I’m not a regular reader of the Thoroughblog site, it was brought to my attention that Ms. Morrison had made quite a mission of casting doubt on the integrity and professionalism of Simon Husbands in his handling of this horse during the running of the 3rd race on Sunday, November 30th.
Ms. Morrison neither contacted myself nor Simon for comment before her widespread, damaging remarks were published.
While it was stated, as a follow up the next day, on her blog, that other sites have discussed this issue, I will remind that the credentials held by this blog editor, are quite sold when innuendos such as these are made.
To this end I feel I must respond in Simon’s defense. I have had a great working relationship with Simon over the years, and can not speak highly enough of his honesty, integrity and willingness to assist me in my job to help a horse achieve it’s maximum potential.
Bug’s Boy was ridden by Simon exactly as I instructed him and as we discussed.
This horse dropped in for $ 16,000., last start and hit a brick wall and stopped immediately, as soon as Simon began to get aggressive with him, as many of you fault him for not doing on Sunday.
After talking to Simon, after the race and experimenting while I galloped him in the morning, I wanted to try something different. I told Simon to keep him covered up as long as possible.
Tap him on the shoulder, and DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT PUSH HIM, or HIT him, but rather hold him on the bit and nudge him.
As you can see Simon’s attention to the instruction resulted in the horse’s best finish yet. He is not the 1st horse I’ve trained that could not be hit!
This horse also did not switch leads down the stretch once again until he crossed the wire, compromising his late burst. Galloping him every morning, I can tell you he is a very quirky horse. As well, by his race record, a good horseplayer might suspect that we have been dealing with some issues!
While we wish Patrick well in his quest for the title, I believe that he’s plenty talented enough and doesn’t need his brother to be aiding him in the outcome of a race, as Ms. Morrison’s innuendo suggested in her public forum….
It should also be pointed out that I sent out 3 of our family owned horses to run the best races of their careers, with a Mdn.Alw. win, and 2, 2nd place finishes….all 3 ridden by Simon Husbands.
While we were ecstatic with the improvement Bug’s Boy showed on Sunday, still he did not win, and make no mistake, that’s what he, Simon and our family went there to do~

what the heck is this guy talking about, watch the replay his horse switched leads inside the 1/8th pole. You would think he would be able to see that.

The final time was pathetic. I'm sure the horse's Beyer TSN rating etc. dropped from the races he was whipped in.
The final time was probably 2 seconds slower than the class should have run that day relative to the other times that day. The second race too was extremely slow.

...then why didn't Leblanc Jr. tell Simon Husbands and the stewards he would not be carrying a whip at all?
"No whip" in the equipment column would allow the bettor in on the little "strategy" change with regards to Bug's Boy.
And, correct if I'm wrong, aren't Leblanc's instructions slightly against the "try to win at all costs" integrity of the game?
If you're going to instruct your jockey not urge the horse on late in the race, what do you expect horseplayers to say thereafter when it looks like Bug's Boy could have gotten by that false winner had the visible effort been there?
Loiselle's race call stated "Bug's Boy travelling well" and "Bug's Boy still yet to be asked", and they were almost at the 16th pole! Even he saw the jockey was dogging it late.
A jockey trying to win with that much experience would be flapping his elbows like crazy to get the horse home in time, even without needing to whip it. Husbands exhibited nothing of the sort in the final 16th. The horse was a mere half length behind at the wire.
It's the APPEARANCE of lack of effort that sours the players, strategy notwithstanding.
And considering how long-winded his written protest of potential wrongdoing is, "methinks he doth protest too much".
Woodbine is full of shenanigans - always has been and always will be.
It was stone job, pure and simple. Leblanc Jr. and S. Husbands can deny it all they want.

I always thought that jockey standings at individual tracks, winning riding titles, meant little to nothing to most riders. Many times I have observed riders leave a track toward the end of a meeting in which they are in a tight race in order to make the start of another meeting that is starting up at another track. Again this was just my impression.
Woodbine might be an exception as it is a extended meet and only a few of those riders ride anywhere else when Woodbine closes. Not to say those riders don't have talent to ride other places they just seem to choose not to. I know Chantal rode at SA last winter and a few others will ride here and there at GP. I am sure other top meets like (SAR,KEE,CD Spring,DMR) are other exceptions where standings matter more.

Woodbine rider draws year ban
By Bill TallonJockey Simon Husbands is facing a suspension of one calendar year for what stewards termed "an unsatisfactory ride" aboard Bug's Boy, who finished second in the third race at Woodbine on Nov. 30.
"Husbands did not persevere with his mount throughout the race or demonstrate an effort to ensure the best and fastest race of which his mount was capable," read the stewards' ruling, which was released Saturday.
Stewards Richard Grubb, Fenton Platts, and Gunnar Lindberg heard testimony from Husbands and trainer John LeBlanc, whose wife, Maggie, and son, Douglas, own Bug's Boy. Robert King, secretary manager of the Jockeys' Benefit Association of Canada, also was present.
Bug's Boy finished second in the race at 14-1.
Husbands, 39, is the older brother of Patrick Husbands, who has been one of the top riders at Woodbine over the past decade.
Through Friday, Simon Husbands had ridden 165 horses at the Woodbine meeting and recorded 13 wins, a total of 45 in-the-money finishes, and earnings of $677,495.
Grubb, the senior steward at the hearing, said that Husbands indicated he will appeal the suspension, which was set for Dec. 8, 2008, through Dec. 7, 2009.

There is something else to look at. Husbands rode to Leblanc's instructions. Leblanc even admits it. Doesn't that make Leblanc responsible at all?

Your absolutely Correct Mr Can There is No Doubt in my Mind that Simon Rode this Horse Per instructions from the Trainer. IF he was going to Stiff the Horse do you guys really think he would make it that obvious, NO way. If any body here needs a Suspension or Fine it is the trainer, not Simon.

What the hell difference does it make if he didn't want to pass his brother?
Does that make it ok for jockeys to stiff horses because there isn't a jockey race going on where a brother doesn't have a chance to win. You've got to be kidding right?????
