Wouldn't it be easier and more useful if race callers used numbers instead of horse names?

I never know if I have "Friskyinthehaystack" in the 4th at FG, but I always know I have the "4".

At least in $10K claimers. I know the names in the Breeders Cup.

I can't see this --> :7: on my computer screen very well.

Sometimes, after they get running, I have to scramble back to the computer to find out my horses names.

Still, I like the way they call it now fine!

We give them names...and the race callers should use them....not numbers:ThmbDown:

if they said numbers how lame would video replays be of champion runs.

you'd have to guess who the hell was that running.

"And that's No. 2, moving like a tremendous machine!"

Naw, it don't work. ;)

They do that with dog racing. Trevor Denman once was a guest caller at a dog track and used names. It was not received kindly, taken as him showing up the dog callers.

... and #2 crosses the wire first , #1 second , #4 third , and #3 fourth ... or was that #4 second , #3 third , and #1 fourth .... whatever .

Harness tracks, or some of them, or at least one of them, do that in a post-race recap: #1, five (not fifth?), #2, three, #3, one (won!), and so on. And then, "From the top down, 5, 3, 1, etc."

Wha?? Who needs that?

I don't think the owners would be too happy with their horse being called as a number.

They should do like nascar and give each horse his own number.

It's bad enough where some tracks have the #1 wear solid red silks, the 2 in white, 3 Blue, etc. If I was an owner, If I pay the bills, I want MY Horse to wear my colors & have his or her name called.

We already have the solution--Trakus. It's used at Woodbine and I believe at Keeneland and offers the best of both worlds; you get the announcer calling the names and you can follow the numbers at the bottom of the screen. This was one of the best innovations in horse racing in recent years, IMHO. All tracks should employ this technology, or at least all major tracks. Plus, I believe that the consensus is that it's more accurate when compiling charts.
