When both horses in a co-owned entry run in the money, how is it divided up?
I ask this based on a race at Portland yesterday. The entry ran first with a photo for second. I had the entry and the other horse involved in the photo so I win either way. I understand the photo is needed for the exotics but it made me wonder if the photo was necessary for entry purse money as well?
Just an idle thought. Its 9:45, my job sucks and I have a minute to kill.

My understanding has always been that horses are coupled for wagering purposes only and that they remain separate entities for all other purposes.
I suppose it could vary by state, and I could also be wrong.

For record-keeping purposes, each horse, owner, trainer, and jockey gets credit for finish position and money earned.

Otherwise, it varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, owner to owner, and trainer to trainer. The splitting of earnings mainly involves jockeys, and the split isn't always equal, unless mandated by jurisdictional rules.
